England youngsters involved in ugly dust-up during Euro qualifier

Boys will be boys.

England’s Under-21 squad had an easy time with Lithuania in Tuesday’s qualifying match for the Under-21 European Championships. But the Three Lions’ 5-0 thumping was marred by an ugly on-field dust-up between starlets Wilfried Zaha and Ravel Morrison.

The 20-year-old Morrison had already scored two goals in what was a brilliant performance by the West Ham midfielder, but with the match all but over, Morrison and Zaha had an argument that couldn’t wait for after the match.

After a fruitless free-kick, Zaha came over to confront Morrison, who responded by shoving his teammate in the face. Substitute Nathan Redmond quickly ran over to break up the fight before it got out of hand.

Following the match, Redmond said:

"It was just a bit of a disagreement, nothing else. We got back in the changing rooms and we sorted it out. You get that with teams everywhere, there is just a bit more of spotlight on this incident because it was for England.

We sorted it out behind the scenes. Rav’s a class player, sometimes he just has to move the ball a little bit quicker. Sometimes you do get a little bit frustrated with him, but you just have to let Rav be Rav because of the things he is capable of.”

For his part, Morrison said he couldn’t remember what happened, which is exactly something a son might tell his parents after a scuffle with his brother. “I can’t remember it, I’ve not seen it back yet to be honest,” Morrison added.
