Sydney Leroux battles tow truck

Sydney Leroux did not have a fun morning. The U.S. women’s soccer star watched in horror as her Audi was being towed on Wednesday, but not before she gave it one hell of a fight:

She may have lost her car for a couple hours, but we’re glad she hasn’t lost her humor!

UPDATE: Leroux has revealed what she did wrong. Could’ve happened to anyone!

Hope Solo caught up in feud with Portland Thorns owner and fans

imageHope Solo is at it again (Image: Getty)

Looks like USWNT No. 1 and Seattle Reign stopper Hope Solo has found herself in the midst of a little war of words. Shocker!

Over the weekend, Solo’s Reign visited the Portland Thorns in a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) contest between two unbeaten teams. The Reign held on to a 1-0 win, but a few egos seemed to be bruised in the process.

Thorns owner Merritt Paulson was the first to fire a shot across the bow, tweeting:

A depleted Thorns team? Paulson was likely referring to the absences of U.S. national team stars Alex Morgan and Tobin Heath. Nevertheless, another Reign and USWNT star, Sydney Leroux, fired back at Paulson:

That looked to be the end of it, until Solo tweeted out a photo on Tuesday that showed quite a few Thorns fans giving Solo the one-fingered salute.

It looks like some pretty definitive proof right here, but there’s always another side to every story. Lucky for us, these two squads will face off again on July 27, but this time on the Reign’s turf.

Stay tuned!

Sydney Leroux offers #Instatips to teammate Megan Rapinoe

image

The ladies on the US national team never cease to amaze us with their social media prowess, but this one might take the cake for post of the year, courtesy of Megan Rapinoe and Sydney Leroux:

Leroux has mastered the art of promoting herself and her team via Twitter and Instagram, and she has now taken Megan Rapinoe under her wing. With poses like that, the bleach-blonde midfielder will be #instafamous in no time!

According to Leroux, Rapinoe’s Instagram clearly needed some help:

To which the accused fired back:

Good laughs all around! It certainly doesn’t appear like the USA’s first loss in over a year (to Sweden in the Algarve Cup) has dampened their spirits much.

Sydney Leroux attempts ‘Happy Gilmore’ golf swing, fails miserably

image

Anybody who ventures out to the driving range must attempt at least one “Happy Gilmore” swing. That’s just common knowledge. But while Adam Sandler makes it look all too easy in the cult classic, some of us know the struggle is real. Take United States women’s national team star Sydney Leroux for example:

It’s a good thing Leroux is wearing Richard Sherman’s “Don’t you ever talk about me” shirt, or else we might be tempted to give her some abuse for this.

She did get the hang of it, though (on her 29th try):

Soccer stars get into the Halloween mood

Halloween is just a couple days away, and if you haven’t figured out a costume yet, well, you’re in luck.

Several soccer stars have already revealed what they’re being for the spookiest day of the year, and perhaps they can serve as inspiration for you.

Want to scare your friends silly? Just take a look at New England Revolution striker Juan Agudelo’s creepy outfit. As you can see by Charlie Davies’ reaction, this will do the trick (no pun intended):

Looking for something more pop culture related? Leave it to USA stars Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux — who else? — to show you what’s hot in the streets right now:

Hilarious choice, but that twerk still looks like it could use some work, Alex. I mean Miley.

Of course, you can always go the vintage Halloween route. Check out Robin van Persie as Count Dracula! Too bad RVP didn’t strip on a Luis Suarez jersey along with it, that would have been truly epic.

The USWNT take Hawaii by storm

Alex Morgan (left) and Sydney Leroux are pictured below, clearly enjoying a well-deserved vacation in Hawaii. Since last summer, these two helped the USA win the gold medal in the Olympics, and ushered in the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League.

But Morgan and Leroux weren’t the only USA stars on vacation in Hawaii. In a funny coincidence, fellow gold medalist Kelley O’Hara was seated right next to Leroux on their flight to Hawaii:

Not only were they enjoying some poolside relaxing, but being professional athletes, it’s no surprise that they took in some of the gorgeous sights of Hawaii:

However, it didn’t take long to realize that the fact that these ladies were all gathered in Hawaii at the same time was no coincidence. It looks like there’s a not-so-well-kept secret wedding on Saturday. Abby Wambach (below, left) and Sarah Huffman (right), both Western NY Flash players, have been rumored to be dating for some time now.

If Huffman’s Twitter photo of her left hand with a rather large ring on it wasn’t a dead giveaway in August, it’s all but clear now what’s about to take place.

image

Wambach and Huffman are registered on ourwedding.com for a wedding reception in Poipu Beach Park in Hawaii for Oct. 5.

image

Portland Thorns player Marian Dougherty all but confirmed the big event in an Instagram post, saying “Let the wedding festivities begin, can’t wait to celebrate the marriage of my two best friends,” and tagged Wambach and Huffman in the post.

It looks like the happy couple will be tying the knot on Saturday, and many of their oldest and closest friends are there to share in the wonderful day with them.

We can’t wait to see the photos from what is sure to be a picturesque ceremony.

Attempts to reach Wambach and Huffman were unsuccessful.

Sydney Leroux nets perfect hat trick in nine minutes!

image

"Leroux! Leroux! Leroux is on fire!"

In the US Women’s National Team’s 7-0 shellacking of Mexico last night, forward Syndey Leroux stole the show with a remarkable feat.

Leroux scored a perfect hat trick — achieved by scoring one goal per header, one with the right foot and one with the left — in just nine minutes! And just for good measure Leroux added a fourth goal, all in just a span of twenty minutes before halftime. Watch them all:

The 23-year-old Leroux was making just her sixth start in her 39th game for the USA and upped her goal total to 21 for her career. She’s still 140 goals shy of Abby Wambach’s international goalscoring record (Wambach scored one goal last night), but if Leroux keeps this pace up, who knows how close she can get in ten years, when she reaches Wambach’s age!

USWNT’s Lauren Cheney marries NBA star Jrue Holiday

Still thinking about that classic four-day July 4th weekend?

Just know, it probably wasn’t as awesome as US Women’s National Team star Lauren Cheney’s. Well, actually she is Lauren Holiday now! The US playmaker married NBA star Jrue Holiday yesterday to cap off the holiday (no pun intended) weekend.

Cheney’s club team, FC Kansas City of the NWSL, tweeted out this great picture:

As you could imagine, plenty of stars from both the soccer and the basketball world were in attendance:

Speaking of Leroux, looks like she enjoyed her long weekend as well. Looking fly!

USWNT celebrates Abby Wambach record with the Tootsie Roll

The USWNT is at it again. After their 5-0 victory over Korea Republic which saw Abby Wambach break Mia Hamm’s all-time scoring record, the squad decided a celebration was in order.

Rather than Sydney Leroux’s traditional postgame cool down of prancercising, the team stepped it up by doing The Tootsie Roll.

Keep the awesome celebrations coming ladies.

Bonus Abby Wambach congratulatory tweet:
