Francesco Totti trolls new teammate Ashley Cole

image

Remember the Roma team picture from last week featuring an isolated Ashley Cole looking like an outcast?

The picture made the rounds last week on social media, inspiring a meme and even its own Twitter handle, @LurkingAshley.

Cole himself couldn’t help but laugh at himself:

Now, Roma captain Francesco Totti has provided the icing on the cake.

For the squad’s latest team photo (on the Rocky Steps, no less), Totti deliberately “pulled an Ashley” and stood off to the side. Check it out:

Andrea Pirlo looks a little worse for wear at the Scudetto bus parade

imageWake up, Andrea!  (Image via 101GG)

Juventus had their bus parade on Sunday to celebrate a third straight Serie A championship, and it seems as though one particular, bearded midfielder may have had one too many libations along the way!

Check it out:

Oh, Andrea!

Since the parade fell on the eve of his birthday (Pirlo turned 35 on Monday), maybe we should give him a pass. After all, it is his birthday week! Long hair, don’t care!

Juventus clinch Serie A title without even playing

What was already a forgone conclusion was etched in stone Sunday: Juventus won their third straight, and 30th overall, Serie A championship. And they weren’t even playing!

While Juve likely would have clinched the title on Monday with a win against Atalanta, second-placed Roma, who were 8 points back with three to play, surprisingly did the business for them with a heavy 4-1 defeat at Catania, the second-worst team in the league.

Juventus’ players were watching the Roma game from a hotel, and while title celebrations are no doubt more fun on the pitch, they showed they can have quite the decent time in a conference room as well:

Miralem Pjanic leaves half of Milan in his wake en route to solo golazo

image

Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic turned in a late candidate for goal of the season Friday night, scoring on a scintillating solo run against AC Milan.

With the score at 0-0 in the first half, the Bosnian star took matters in his own hands, splitting the entire Rossoneri defense as if they were merely cones on the practice pitch:

Milan’s defenders then proceeded to search for their dignity for the rest of the match, which they would lose 2-0.

Tiziano Crudeli goes Tiziano Crudeli after Balotelli, Taarabt score for AC Milan

No one will ever confuse Italian TV commentator Tiziano Crudeli as a straight shooter. And frankly, we don’t care.

Crudeli, an avid AC Milan supporter, lost his marbles on live television after Mario Balotelli and Adel Taarabt helped the Rossoneri capture their fifth straight win by defeating Livorno 3-0 on Saturday. Take a listen:

Despite the result, Milan face an uphill climb after a subpar start to their Serie A campaign. The Italian giants remain five points behind city rivals Inter Milan in Serie A to secure a Europa League spot.

Just don’t tell Crudelli.

Former friends meet after marital drama, and tensions boil over

image

It wasn’t long ago that former teammates Maxi Lopez and Mauro Icardi were close friends, sharing memories and vacations together. Just seven months ago, they were pictured together on a boat, smiling and relaxing:

Since then, their relationship has turned sour, and it boiled over during Inter Milan’s 4-0 win over Sampdoria on Sunday. But what was it that caused the friends to part ways? Two words: Wanda Nara.

Lopez and Nara were married in 2008, and have since had two children together. They seemed the picture of a perfect, happy family, but soon Nara began a very public affair with Icardi:

At first, it seemed that Lopez was handling it well, telling Argentine media TyC:

“It has been a very difficult time in my life and I cried a lot, but it all passed thanks to football. It was not a normal break-up, but at the end of the day nobody died. All I want now is to spend time with my children. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll face Icardi on the field and we’ll have a good laugh about it.”

Well, that day came on Sunday, and it’s safe to say Lopez was not laughing.

Apparently Lopez was unhappy with Icardi posting images on Twitter of himself with Lopez’s two children that he had with Nara.

"I can understand that, being a public figure, he publishes photos. But I`m not comfortable with my kids being in those photos," Lopez said in comments to Sky Sports.

The snubbed handshake wasn’t where the drama ended. During Sunday’s match, Icardi scored twice, and definitely used his celebration to rub it in a little. And, there was a scuffle on the field that both players were involved in.

In the end, Icardi got the best of his former friend and teammate — leaving with both the win and the girl.

Italian player to adopt baby abandoned on a train

Sassuolo foward and family man Antonio Floro Flores may not consider himself a hero, but for one little boy, he will be.

According to Football Italia, a baby believed to be three or four days old was found abandoned in a bag under a train seat. When Floro Flores heard of the story, he was so moved he inquired about the young child. After attempts to find the birth parents failed, the on-loan Sassuolo forward began the process to officially adopt the boy.

“After seeing the profile of little Francesco, we followed what our hearts told us,” Floro Flores said on Twitter. “Before being a player, I am a father. I’m certainly not a hero! We are going through the regular procedures.”

What a guy.

Torino’s Ciro Immobile scores volley of the year

Who isn’t a fan of volleys?

Oh, you aren’t? Well, then this video is not for you:

Torino striker Ciro Immobile scored an improbable goal against Roma on Tuesday that will have you questioning gravity and physics and all that nonsense. It also proves not to judge a player by his last name.

Immobile one-timed a high-arching pass from midfield and smashed it perfectly past Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis for the golazo, which brought back memories Antonio Di Natale’s masterpiece a year ago:

Since that epicness, all volleys have been judged against “the Di Natale.” But after Tuesday, we may have to make “the Immobile” the new high-water mark, even if it doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

Pair of late free-kick golazos electrify Serie A

A pair of Serie A matches ended in similar fashion Monday night, with both away sides stealing a point on late free-kick goals that will make your mouth water.
Fiorentina midfielder and Chile international Matias Fernandez scored perhaps the goal of the round in the 85th minute to salvage a 2-2 draw at Parma. The goal kept La Viola alive in the hunt for a Champions League spot, remaining six points behind third-placed Napoli, who were also affected by a late set piece golazo.

Almost exactly two hours later, Genoa’s Emanuele Calaiò scored in the 84th minute to earn a late point against the Partenopei. The kicker? Calaiò is currently on loan at Genoa from — yup, you guessed it — Napoli!

Calaiò thus actually hurt his parent club’s chances at an automatic Champions League spot for next season. With the draw, Napoli fell to six points behind Roma for second place.

Afterward, Calaiò apologized to the home fans:

"I’m sorry to have scored a goal against Napoli itself. I had important spells there,” Calaio said. ”When the manager gives me the opportunity I try to give my all for this shirt, our fans deserve it. I dedicate the goal to my family and my son.

It’s the third goal in my career I’ve scored from a free kick, I’m sorry to have scored at the San Paolo, but that’s my job and I hope to score in the next games too.”
