Neymar is the Justin Bieber of football. Brilliant on the old You Tube. Cat piss in reality…— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton)
Ohh, Joey Barton.
Where would we be without the outspoken journeyman midfielder? Barton provided us with not just one, but two outrageous opinions that we will forever link with Twitter in 2013. Neymar and Thiago Silva — two footballers with a slightly more successful track record than Barton — were the subjects of the two best Twitter disses of 2013. And regardless of how moronic they were, who didn’t crack up over them? Well, aside from all you die-hard “Beliebers” out there:
Have to take back what I said about Thiago Silva being over rated today. Been immense tonight. Still looks like a overweight ladyboy though!— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton)
Barton, of course, was not the only one to give us more reasons to get caught up in the Twitterverse.
Who can forget Cristiano Ronaldo’s infamous PR disaster regarding the launch of his own underwear line?
Some things are better left unsaid, er, un-tweeted.
Then again, others absolutely need to be, like when Mario Balotelli finally got his own pet pig:
Finally my little pig arrived! She is only 2 month old! Is a she but i called her SUPER! ;-) pic.twitter.com/6rMaRE9wox— Mario Balotelli (@FinallyMario)
Naturally, some of the funniest tweets include bonehead mistakes. Such as Sergio Ramos mixing up NBA cities while becoming completely enthralled by the Miami Heat:
No seriously, his admiration for LeBron James was kind of scary. This was his Twitter cover picture for a while:
Now that’s a mistake.
Then there was this classic case of Crystal Palace cutting and pasting another team’s account, and paying dearly for it. Palace tweeted out lineups for their August match against Stoke, and accidentally did this:
Don’t plagiarize, kids.
All these tweets were hysterical in their own way, but to us, the perhaps greatest moment on Twitter was not even a post at all, just a simple new “Follow.”
Because just mere moments after the notorious Luis Suarez “Bitegate” occurred, this happened:
Happy New Year’s everyone. May Twitter bring us even more laughs in 2014!
Chelsea dominates today’s Paper Chase as three of their players have emerged as targets for other clubs. David Luiz, Demba Ba and Kevin de Bruyne are the men in question, while Sergio Ramos has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Check out these and more rumors by clicking here.
Arsenal’s search for a striker to help out the indefatigable Olivier Giroud has switched to South America. Arsene Wenger views Corinthians forward Alexandre Pato as the man to end the Gunners’ trophy drought for a figure believed to be around $16 million which sounds cheap to us. We’ve also got the latest on the future of the much-maligned Nicklas Bendtner, plusa very interesting story on Sergio Ramos. Click here for these and more.
What is it with soccer stars surprising their ladyfriends on TV and bringing them to tears?
Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos, who has never been afraid to showcase his harmonious side, came up with the great idea to surprise his girlfriend on national TV with a nice little ditty seen above.
Pilar Rubio, Ramos’ girlfriend and guest on the show “El Hormiguero,” couldn’t contain herself when Casanova himself came out crooning with guitar in hand.
The oldest celebrity trick in the book, but it works every time. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

Sergio Ramos has joined the long list of Real Madrid players linked with a move from the Bernabeu. The Spain defender has apparently hit a brick wall in his bid to obtain a pay rise (how much do these players need?) which has prompted one paper to suggest he could move to either Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain.
We’ve also got the latest on Manchester United’s hunt for a new center-back - just click here for the latest gossip from the UK press.
As the Spanish national team prepare for their match vs. Haiti at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium, the defending European champions were able to take in Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.
While the players were understandably excited, it might have helped to do a little research. We’re looking at you Sergio Ramos:

For the record, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Miami Heat on Thursday night. We’ll cut the Real Madrid superstar some slack, after all, English isn’t his first language. To his credit, he immediately deleted the post and corrected himself. Still, there are many questions that need to be answered, such as:
1) Why is Ramos such a big Heat fan?
2) Why does Ramos have a LeBron James jersey and no pants on in his Twitter background?
3) Why is there someone in a banana suit trying to get autographs from the defending World Cup champ?
Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos shows off his skills on the football field, but not the kind we’re used to seeing him play on. Check out this 53-yard punt. Impressive.
