Cup final defeat final straw for Mancini

In today’s Paper Chase, Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City future hangs in the balance after the side’s embarrassing loss to underdogs Wigan in the FA Cup final.

Ben Watson’s late header powered Wigan to a 1-0 victory against overwhelming favourites City on Saturday, and concerns are now growing in the blue half of Manchester as to whether Mancini is capable of overseeing the creation of a European juggernaut.

The “Aguero Stomp”

For some unknown reason, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero was not booked for this tackle on Chelsea’s David Luiz. In good “kick him while he’s down” measure, he jumped in for a two footed stomp on Luiz’s backside. The referee was either taking a nap or looking in the opposite direction as Aguero was allowed to stay on for the 2-1 FA Cup victory.

Roberto Mancini may be under pressure as Manchester City manager, but the Italian proved to the media on Friday that is keeping his sense of humor.

The City boss arrived for the weekly press briefing wearing a David Platt mask, perhaps as a nod to the number of times in recent weeks that Mancini’s assistant has stood in for the manager in front of the media.

It was all smiles at Carrington as the assembled journalists saw the funny side, but will Mancini still be laughing after City’s crucial Champions League clash with Real Madrid next week?
