Fabio Coentrao’s mistake on Saturday is almost too good to be true.

Coentrao took his place on the Real Madrid bench for the match against Espanyol, and on most days, there would be nothing unusual with that. But on Saturday, he wasn’t in the match-day squad.

Goalkeeper Iker Casillas gives Coentrao a double take, but even after he explains the situation to the Portugal defender it just doesn’t seem to sink in that he is not supposed to be there. Even Jose Mourinho gets a good laugh out of his blunder, and let’s face it, smiles have been in short supply at Madrid lately.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s reaction says all you need to know about what he thinks about Coentrao — even he knows his close friend isn’t too bright sometimes.

Balotelli splits with girlfriend Neguesha after Real Madrid bet?

image

Sadly, and perhaps inevitably, Mario Balotelli and the Belgian model Fanny Neguesha are no longer an item.

It seems hard to believe that the two could have split after the AC Milan striker allegedly offered the opportunity for the Real Madrid squad to sleep with his girlfriend if they overcame a 4-1 deficit against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Of course, she had no say in the matter!

Incredibly, Gazzetta dello Sport is claiming that Balotelli dumped Neguesha, but whoever forced the split Neguesha has had a narrow escape.

Chelsea looks to lure Special One

image

After last night’s dramatic 2-0 win but 4-3 aggregate loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho seemed to concede that La Liga was not his destination next season.

Speculation is rife as to where he’ll be off next, but former club Chelsea appear top of most people’s shortlists. The Blues are aiming to lure him towards Stamford Bridge themselves this summer, offering a whopping $150 million transfer war chest to the Portuguese maestro. For more news on JoMo, Wenger, Benteke and Bale’s future, take a look at today’s Paper Chase.

Jose Mourinho is cut off while hinting at Real Madrid exit

When Jose Mourinho is about to address his plans for the future, the absolute last thing you should do is cut him off. But that’s exactly what happened after Real Madrid was dumped from the Champions League on Tuesday.

As an ITV reporter is wrapping up his post-game interview with the Special One, this is how it unfolded:

“Maybe next season with Real?” the reporter asked. “Maybe not,” Mourinho replied. So the reporter presses him, asking “Where?” In a dejected tone, Mourinho says:

“I don’t know, but I know I want to be where, I’d love to be where people love me to be…”

And just as Mourinho sounds like he’s about to continue and reveal what everyone has spent months anxiously awaiting, the reporter (or the producer in his ear) abruptly cuts Mou off, saying, “We’ll take that as England. I’ve gotta go.”

We’re not sure what’s better here: Lionel Messi’s magical goal, or Ray Hudson’s over-the-top call.

When Messi entered the match in the 59th minute, Barcelona was behind 1-0 to Athletic Bilbao. The little genius sparked a comeback when he scored the goal seen above to equalize. Then he assisted on Alexis Sanchez’s goal two short minutes later.

But Barcelona would blow it late, as they gave up an equalizer in the 90th minute, drawing 2-2 against Athletic Bilbao.

Barca’s title celebrations will have to wait just a little longer.
