Arsenal closing on double deal for Draxler and Vucinic

Arsenal have been pulling out all the stops to sign Julian Draxler, a deal described as an “illusion” by Arsene Wenger only last week. But the Gunners’ transfer interest doesn’t stop there. Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic, whose move to Inter Milan collapsed last week, also looks as though he will be joining Schalke midfielder Draxler at the Emirates.

We’ve got a heap of other rumors too. One of the best involves a club interested in signing Manchester United winger Nani. Click here to find out which one.

Manchester United set to enter Kroos control

Just a couple of days remain before the January transfer window slams shut, and the rumor merry-go-round is certainly in full swing.

One of the main protagonists of this transfer window has been David Moyes’ Manchester United, following their early-season struggles. They don’t look likely to stop spending after snaring Juan Mata from rivals Chelsea, and now they’re looking at another world class midfielder.

Pep Guardiola has admitted that Toni Kroos can leave Bayern Munich, opening the door to a move to Old Trafford.

Also in today’s round-up, there’s news of an alleged Arsenal bid for Julian Draxler from Schalke. Read about it and more on today’s Paper Chase.

Arsene Wenger plays coy with media over Julian Draxler speculation

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice?

Last summer, Arsene Wenger stunned us all by breaking the bank for Mesut Ozil on transfer deadline day, after weeks of steadfastly denying that any deals were even in the works.

So we probably shouldn’t take Wenger at his word this time around. After Friday’s FA Cup win over Coventry City, the Gunners boss said there is “nothing at all” to report on Arsenal’s hotly rumored negotiations with Schalke regarding German international Julian Draxler.

Yeah, sure thing, Arsene. We “believe” you.

Come on, that’s as guilty a look as we’ve ever seen.

Draxler might indeed not come to Arsenal in this window, though the German starlet reportedly is very eager to do so. Schalke wouldn’t do themselves any favors by selling their best player while fighting for a Champions League spot next season, although they did the same with Lewis Holtby a year ago. At the very least, however, there must be something going on between the two clubs.

In fact, we’ve already seen reports that a fee has already been agreed upon for the 20-year-old, rumored to be between $50 to $60 million.

Ferdinand offered chance to play in MLS

Rio Ferdinand’s injury problems mean he is unlikely to be offered a new contract by Manchester United when his deal expires at the end of the season. But that doesn’t mean it’s all over for the former England international because the 35-year-old defender has been offered the opportunity to play in MLS.

We’ve got the rumors on Manchester United’s transfer targets, plus the latest on Julian Draxler and much more. Just click here.

Real Madrid to raid Manchester United for Rooney

While the potential Juan Mata move from London to Manchester grabs the headlines, it seems that a giant of football is waiting in the wings to capitalize. Mata seems destined for Manchester United, but could a star be shipped out to accommodate him?

It seems likely, and considering Real Madrid’s lure, who could forgive Wayne Rooney for having his head turned? He’s hankered for a move twice during his Manchester stay, but this January could finally see Rooney spread his wings and join a star-studded Bernabeu cast.

Also in our morning British paper round-up is an update on the Mata situation, a potential midfielder moving to Liverpool, Arsenal preparing a bid for Julian Draxler and plenty, plenty more at the click of a button.

Arsenal step up chase for Draxler

Arsenal added quality to their midfield in the summer with Mesut Ozil moving to London from Real Madrid. Along with Ozil, the reemergence of talent such as Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, means Arsene Wenger doesn’t have to pay over the odds for midfield talent.

According to one newspaper today Wenger is looking to bring in Schalke star midfielder Julian Draxler. The Gunners have reportedly discovered a £40 million buy-out clause in his contract at the Bundesliga club, and are set to swoop in January or the summer.

Table-topping Gunners looking to strengthen midfield

It may not be an area that most people believe needs strengthening, but Arsenal are apparently winning the race to sign Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler. Chelsea and Manchester United are also hoping to poach the Germany international. However, the Gunners have also been linked with a player closer to home. One of the papers reckons Arsene Wenger is planning a New Year swoop for West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu. Click here for the rest of the gossip from the UK media.

London giants seek fresh blood in January

North London giants Arsenal and Tottenham are looking for new recruits in the New Year despite strengthening their squads in the summer. Portugal international Fabio Coentrao has been persistently linked with a move to White Hart Lane and he has been lined up by Andre Villas-Boas for a January switch from Real Madrid.

The Gunners apparently face a battle with Juventus for Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler. Yes, you heard another midfielder! Click here for more of the best gossip around, including an interesting target for Liverpool.

Manchester United looks to spend big

It may be coming up to the end of the transfer window, but Manchester United appears to be finally taking some action.
