Bologna forgets to pick up new signing from airport

Just before the January transfer window closed, Bologna signed Brazilian midfielder Ibson from Corinthians. While they got the paperwork for the deal completed ahead of the deadline, the club forgot another very, very important detail: to pick up their newest player from the airport.

According to Italian media outlet TMW, Ibson arrived at the airport in Italy and not a single representative from the club was there to greet him. Four members of the technical staff were also reportedly suspended because of the incident.

How embarrassing. Ibson might be having second thoughts about signing for the Serie A strugglers.

Spurs to revive interest in winger

Wow, that was hectic! So another January transfer window comes to an end, but no need to worry, only another 364 days to go until the next one. £126 million ($207 million) was spent over January, breaking last year’s record of £120 million. Amazingly, a lot of the top Premier League clubs refrained from breaking the bank over the first month of the new year.

Liverpool missed out on one of their top targets on deadline day. A deal for Ukraine winger Yevhen Konoplyanka fell through at the last minute after Dnipro’s president refused to sign the paperwork. Saturday’s newspapers report that Tottenham will look to hijack interest from the Reds when the window reopens in the summer.

Manchester United set to enter Kroos control

Just a couple of days remain before the January transfer window slams shut, and the rumor merry-go-round is certainly in full swing.

One of the main protagonists of this transfer window has been David Moyes’ Manchester United, following their early-season struggles. They don’t look likely to stop spending after snaring Juan Mata from rivals Chelsea, and now they’re looking at another world class midfielder.

Pep Guardiola has admitted that Toni Kroos can leave Bayern Munich, opening the door to a move to Old Trafford.

Also in today’s round-up, there’s news of an alleged Arsenal bid for Julian Draxler from Schalke. Read about it and more on today’s Paper Chase.

Man Utd to break bank for Vidal

The rumors keep rolling in for Manchester United supporters. A fortnight ago it was Wesley Sneijder, last week it was Atletico star Koke and Dortmund’s Marco Reus. Who will fill that midfield role now the transfer window has opened?

In Thursday’s English newspapers, Juventus’ Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal is the latest name to be linked with a move to Old Trafford. Vidal has been one of Juve’s outstanding players and one of the reasons they have won back-to-back Scudetto’s in recent years. It is certain United will have to break the bank for the midfielder, especially in the inflated January sales.

Man Utd deal for Koke back on

Manchester United look set to do business when the January transfer window opens in a few days time. David Moyes has manoeuvred the Red Devils into a decent Premier League position after early-season criticism. If United can strengthen in the window they could yet have a say on where the Premier League title ends up this campaign.

The latest name to be linked with the reigning champions is that of Atletico Madrid star Koke. This is not a new rumor after it appeared United had pulled out of the race, however it now seems the deal could be back on. Moyes is desperate for midfield reinforcements and it seems the shoe fits here.

Mourinho plots Higuain transfer

It is clear to most people that Chelsea could do with a new striker. The current bunch could only manage a handful of goals in the calendar year and Jose Mourinho may be forced to enter the transfer market if things don’t improve.

The latest player linked with Chelsea is Napoli hitman Gonzalo Higuain, who seems to have started well at the club. The forward could cost up to £48 million.

Eto’o linked with MLS; Stoke still want Agudelo

Samuel Eto’o joined Chelsea in the summer initially on a season-long contract. According to Wednesday’s newspapers Eto’o fancies testing himself in America’s Major League Soccer. The league is improving season on season and is increasingly becoming the place for a football swansong.

Stoke are looking to launch a second attempt to land American international Juan Agudelo. Their first bid was thwarted after the New England Revolution striker failed a work permit application. However, Stoke look set to renew interest in January.

Valencia want to re-sign Juan Mata

Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata seems to remain out of favor with the Blues hierarchy and could be set for a switch in January. Jose Mourinho believes the star is part of his plans, but how long will Mata put up with being on the bench or omitted from the squad entirely? He has been Chelsea’s leading player for the past two seasons and has rightly built up interest from elsewhere. Valencia have today been linked with an ambitious move to re-sign the Spanish International in January.
