Iniesta ignores young pitch invader while she hugs him

We’re sure that Andres Iniesta normally loves the support of his fans, but when a young girl ran onto the field to hug her idol after Barcelona’s loss to Granada on Saturday, we can’t blame him for trying to brush her off.

Her timing was less than ideal: it was during a TV interview. After a loss. To a team that hasn’t defeated your club since 1972.

Come on, kiddo. Not cool.

You have to give her credit for her commitment to the hug. That girl has a death-grip on Iniesta’s waist. But was it worth the inevitable months of being grounded?

Cristiano Ronaldo asks district attorney to drop charges against hugging pitch invader

Hugs can go a long way these days.

According to Miami news station WPLG Local 10, Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly asked prosecutors to drop charges against the young fan who was arrested after running onto the pitch to hug him during a preseason match at Sun Life Stadium.

19-year-old Ronald Gjoka, a Palm Beach State Community College student from Albania, first won Ronaldo’s affection during the International Champions Cup final against Chelsea, when his lengthy hug visibly struck a cord with the global football icon. And apparently, Gjoka left such a big impression on him that Ronaldo now penned a letter to help the fan escape punishment for his “pitch invasion.”

From Local 10:

"I understand your position and the importance of enforcing rules and law," Ronaldo wrote in a letter to the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. "However, I respectfully request that you and your office reconsider this decision and dismiss the two criminal charges this young man faces."

The two charges Gjoka faces are trespassing and disorderly conduct, and according to his lawyer he could face “problems with immigrations and his college if the charges aren’t dropped.”

Here’s to hoping that Ronaldo’s noble act — refreshing in this day and age, to say the least — will be enough to do just that.

Pitch “invader” gives Ronaldo lengthy hug as Real Madrid clinches ICC title

The preseason is a time for extensive fitness regimens, wrinkles in the playbook, welcoming new players, a little bit of fun, and of course, hugs. Warm, intimate, unabated hugs.

Cristiano Ronaldo was on the receiving end last night during the International Champions Cup final, after a young fan ran onto the pitch to spend some quality time in the arms of his idol. The young man, who benefited from an alarmingly unresponsive security team, whispered sweet nothings into Ronaldo’s ear for a good twenty seconds before the star of the evening (CR7 scored two great goals to lead Real Madrid to the title) helped direct him back to the sidelines, visibly touched by what he heard.

We couldn’t possibly know what was said, but judging by Ronaldo’s face, it was probably something to the effect of “You totally should have won every Ballon d’Or over Messi.”

This is the second instance this summer where a fan was barely stopped from reaching their idols. A few weeks ago, a die-hard Didier Drogba fan had to be dragged off the pitch by the Ivorian striker himself during a friendly match in Shrewsbury.

Meanwhile, no fans ran up to hug Jose Mourinho, who before the match took a stab at his former player by saying he is not “the real Ronaldo” (the Brazilian). Not feeling so special now, are we Jose?

Didier Drogba has to escort hugging pitch invader back to sideline

"Don’t let go! Don’t you ever let go!"

There are times when supporters take their love for a club or player a just little bit too far. Case in point: this heavily tattooed Chelsea fan — one of which is an image of Didier Drogba — who invaded the pitch during Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory against tiny Shrewsbury this weekend.

The fan “attacked” Drogba with a big bear hug and some kisses on the cheek, clearly with no intention of letting go of his favorite player. After a few seconds, Drogba tried to detach himself, but the man had other ideas — mainly, continuing to sweet-talk and cuddle up to his idol. We can only imagine what the fan was babbling in Drogba’s ear as the former Chelsea player actually had to escort him to the sideline himself.

Now that’s what we call a Stage-5 clinger!

Ah, the one and only Diego Armando Maradona.

The Argentine legend was spotted at the Dubai Tennis Championships earlier this week and met former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki. After a long, grueling match, the ex-champ chatted up with Maradona for some Q&A’s and “friendly” photo shots.

Always the sly dog, Maradona couldn’t take his hands off the Danish sensation. For the record,  Diego’s long-time partner, Veronica Ojeda, was nowhere in sight.
