Former friends meet after marital drama, and tensions boil over

image

It wasn’t long ago that former teammates Maxi Lopez and Mauro Icardi were close friends, sharing memories and vacations together. Just seven months ago, they were pictured together on a boat, smiling and relaxing:

Since then, their relationship has turned sour, and it boiled over during Inter Milan’s 4-0 win over Sampdoria on Sunday. But what was it that caused the friends to part ways? Two words: Wanda Nara.

Lopez and Nara were married in 2008, and have since had two children together. They seemed the picture of a perfect, happy family, but soon Nara began a very public affair with Icardi:

At first, it seemed that Lopez was handling it well, telling Argentine media TyC:

“It has been a very difficult time in my life and I cried a lot, but it all passed thanks to football. It was not a normal break-up, but at the end of the day nobody died. All I want now is to spend time with my children. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll face Icardi on the field and we’ll have a good laugh about it.”

Well, that day came on Sunday, and it’s safe to say Lopez was not laughing.

Apparently Lopez was unhappy with Icardi posting images on Twitter of himself with Lopez’s two children that he had with Nara.

"I can understand that, being a public figure, he publishes photos. But I`m not comfortable with my kids being in those photos," Lopez said in comments to Sky Sports.

The snubbed handshake wasn’t where the drama ended. During Sunday’s match, Icardi scored twice, and definitely used his celebration to rub it in a little. And, there was a scuffle on the field that both players were involved in.

In the end, Icardi got the best of his former friend and teammate — leaving with both the win and the girl.

Soccer derbies don’t get any more contentious than those between Istanbul’s three major clubs — Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas — and unfortunately, fan violence marred the first derby of the Turkish Super Lig season.

The match between Besiktas and Galatasaray had to be abandoned after fans flooded the pitch to fight with security personnel and riot police.

Tempers boiled over after Galatasaray’s Felipe Melo was given a red card with the away side leading 2-1 and the match heading into stoppage time. At that point, Besiktas fans began making their way threateningly onto the field, causing the match officials and both teams to seek shelter in the dressing rooms.

What followed was pure chaos. Hundreds of fans stormed the pitch, many of whom carried lawn chairs as weapons. Chairs and various objects were hurled about, punches were thrown, and in the midst of the melee, the red-carded Felipe Melo was even hit by a bottle.

Reports suggest the havoc started after clashes between Besiktas fans and riot police took place inside the stadium, although the Turkey Football Federation will deliver their verdict, along with the official match result, in the coming days.

Iranian youth coach arrested after assaulting referee

A youth match in Iran turned ugly after a series of verbal altercations between one team’s coach and the referee led to some postgame fisticuffs.

After the referee dismissed the coach in question for repeatedly berating him during the game, the irate manager decided to walk over after the final whistle and give him a little more than just a piece of his mind.

Accepting the challenge, the referee was clearly ready to throw down. After being separated, he promptly started to strip off his jersey — a telltale sign that he’s probably not someone you mess with — eager to return the favor. Though the two hotheads were successfully isolated at first, the referee eventually got hold of his assailant down the tunnel for a little payback, as these images show:
