Former friends meet after marital drama, and tensions boil over

It wasn’t long ago that former teammates Maxi Lopez and Mauro Icardi were close friends, sharing memories and vacations together. Just seven months ago, they were pictured together on a boat, smiling and relaxing:

Since then, their relationship has turned sour, and it boiled over during Inter Milan’s 4-0 win over Sampdoria on Sunday. But what was it that caused the friends to part ways? Two words: Wanda Nara.

Lopez and Nara were married in 2008, and have since had two children together. They seemed the picture of a perfect, happy family, but soon Nara began a very public affair with Icardi:

At first, it seemed that Lopez was handling it well, telling Argentine media TyC:

“It has been a very difficult time in my life and I cried a lot, but it all passed thanks to football. It was not a normal break-up, but at the end of the day nobody died. All I want now is to spend time with my children. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll face Icardi on the field and we’ll have a good laugh about it.”

Well, that day came on Sunday, and it’s safe to say Lopez was not laughing.

Apparently Lopez was unhappy with Icardi posting images on Twitter of himself with Lopez’s two children that he had with Nara.

"I can understand that, being a public figure, he publishes photos. But I`m not comfortable with my kids being in those photos," Lopez said in comments to Sky Sports.

The snubbed handshake wasn’t where the drama ended. During Sunday’s match, Icardi scored twice, and definitely used his celebration to rub it in a little. And, there was a scuffle on the field that both players were involved in.

In the end, Icardi got the best of his former friend and teammate — leaving with both the win and the girl.

Cristiano Ronaldo comes up big…again

Real Madrid haven’t had the start to the La Liga season they were hoping to, especially with their blockbuster summer signing of Gareth Bale. Los Blancos have 19 points and sit behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the league table. Sure, it’s not the worst imaginable start, but considering how talented — and expensive — the side is, much more is expected from the club.

When Madrid took on mid-table Levante on Saturday, things started going south for them again. It took a stunning late comeback to secure a 3-2 win, with a very, very late goal from Cristiano Ronaldo:

This is hardly the first time Ronaldo has saved Madrid from dropping points these season:

We love the drama, but Madridistas around the world are probably yearning for a less heart-stopping action in the next few matches.

Spain players reportedly staged strip poker party on night of hotel robbery

Thomas Hautmann (@HautmannOnFOX)

A few days ago, news broke that several Spanish players’ rooms were broken into and robbed at the Confederations Cup.

Maybe they forgot to mention a few minor details.

According to overwhelming reports from Brazil, on the night in question several women were allegedly seen entering the players’ rooms where they all played a round of strip poker before the robbery took place.

Hotel employees reportedly told Brazilian media giant Globo that players ordered a band to come play in the room to celebrate Spain’s opening match victory over Uruguay. The report adds that the band played until 1 a.m. and that the five women joined five players and members of the technical staff for a late-night game of adult entertainment. It wasn’t until later in the morning that several players, including Shakira’s boyfriend Gerard Pique, discovered cash and valuables stolen from their rooms.

Though the Spanish federation acknowledged that six of its players were robbed at the team hotel, the players and Spanish football association have called these reports a “total lie.”

Either way, someone has some serious explaining to do.

Pig prank gone wrong in Stoke locker room

Apparently, ham was on Stoke City’s lunch menu.

The club is launching an internal investigation after a bloody pig’s head was found in the locker of striker Kenwyne Jones. Winger Brek Shea Instagrammed a photo of the pig’s head with the caption “Locker room banter gone wild!”

Jones, who is a Rastafarian and does not eat pork, was less than pleased. He reportedly threw a brick through teammate Glenn Whelan’s car window, who was thought to be behind the prank gone wrong.

When it comes to pranking teammates, the Potters go all in. Less than a week before the pig incident, the soon to be retired Michael Owen received a retirement gift from his teammates in the form of his Mercedes being covered in eggs and flour.

Stoke later released a statement:

"The club takes seriously the reports of an incident at our training ground this afternoon. A full internal investigation will be carried out and those responsible for any unacceptable behavior will be dealt with in accordance with the club’s disciplinary procedures."

Jones’ girlfriend, Kissa Abdullah, expressed her displeasure on Twitter, condemning the perpetrators and stating the prank was “not even close to funny.”

Chelsea make history, win Europa League on stoppage time goal

What. A. Finish. Branislav Ivanovic rose higher than everyone else on Chelsea’s last-minute corner kick in stoppage time, and his arching header sailed past Benfica goalie Artur and into the back of the net for a dramatic, late, Europa League-winning goal.

Incredibly, Chelsea are now simultaneous Champions League and Europa League title holders. Congratulations!
