No athlete is more well-liked than Cristiano Ronaldo. That’s a stone-cold fact … if you go by Facebook, anyway.
Ronaldo became the first pro athlete to crack the 100 million like mark on the social networking site, and nobody else is even close.
Ronaldo has about 25 million more likes than Real Madrid’s Facebook page, 26 million more than Lionel Messi, and about 78 million more than the closest American pro athlete, LeBron James (21.6 million likes).
According to CNN, Ronaldo is adding Facebook fans at a whopping rate of 54 per minute.
Ronaldo’s popularity is as unmatched as his ability on the field at the moment. The reigning FIFA Ballon d’Or and UEFA Best Player in Europe winner scored a dramatic, 95th-minute game-winner in Portugal’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Denmark on Tuesday, the same day as topping the 100 million fan mark on Facebook.
