Marseille’s Dimitri Payet hits scoreboard with wayward corner kick

It’s quickly becoming an epidemic: Nobody can take corner kicks anymore.

First, it was Nantes’ Serge Gakpe. Then it was Keisuke Honda.

Now, this:

Olympique Marseille’s Dimitri Payet was able to accomplish a nearly impossible feat: Hitting Guingamp’s scoreboard with this horrendous corner.

Were it not for the scoreboard, who knows where the ball would have landed. Out of the stadium? Out of the atmosphere? Sadly, we’ll never know.

Keisuke Honda throws name in the ring for worst corner kick ever

Earlier today, we showed you a pathetic attempt at a corner kick from Nantes midfielder Serge Gakpé.

Not to be outdone, Keisuke Honda of AC Milan did all in his power to upstage Mr. Gakpé. In a preseason match vs Valencia, Honda somehow, incredibly, blasted the set piece all the way into the furthest reaches of the upper deck. In fact, the ball probably still hasn’t landed.

The worst best part? For some reason Honda was allowed to take another corner in the second half. And wouldn’t you know it, the Japenese winger almost produced an exact copy of that horrendous effort:

Hey, at least he hit the ball!

Could we somehow fuse the attempts from Honda and Gakpé together into one, it would surely be a textbook corner kick.

This might be the strangest pitch invader yet

Just when you think you’ve seen everything, along comes Betty Boop.

During Marseille’s 1-1 draw with Sochaux, a fan interrupted Mathieu Valbuena while he set up to take a corner kick.

Why would someone would bring this doll into a soccer stadium? You know what, don’t answer that. We probably don’t want to know.

Have a laugh! Check out the worst corner kick ever

Denmark secured a crucial 1-0 victory at Armenia in World Cup qualifying Wednesday, profiting from the home side’s failure to replicate the form it showed in the reverse fixture, a 4-0 victory for the European minnows.

Comically bad set pieces such as this one by Spartak Moscow’s Aras Ozbiliz probably didn’t help Armenia’s cause:

Is this the worst attempt at a corner you’ve ever seen? It’s certainly worse than even this gem from January:

Cue the Borat jokes, everybody!

Field conditions were comically bad over at a league match in Kazakhstan this week, so bad that one corner was completely under water.

However, as you can see the players still had to obey the laws of the game, and a routine corner kick instantly became a comedy routine:

First, #22 tries to sneak in the first ever underhand-corner-throw-in, before he gets chided by the ref. He then calls over his buddy for an ingenius 2-man indirect corner kick that surprisingly works rather well. Lastly, the ball ominously floats towards the same corner, which would’ve made this video 100 times better, but this time the ball takes a plunge before it reaches out of bounds!

A scary scene took place on Monday night reminding us all of the true dangers surrounding aerial clashes.

During the second half of Galatasaray’s 4-2 win over Orduspor, the match was interrupted by a head injury to Orduspor’s David Barral. Barral was left concussed after clashing heads with ex-Chelsea star Didier Drogba when the players challenged for a ball during a corner kick.

Medical personnel rushed the field and carted the Spanish player to a near hospital. In a touching and classy gesture, Drogba paid Barral a hospital visit, even though the Champions League hero was feeling the effects of the head clash himself:
