Seven fans cash in on 500/1 bet for Leicester City-Man United game

imageA weekly feature over on PaddyPower.com called “Stupid Punt" offers customers seemingly ridiculous bets, such as Sunday’s 500/1 odds for a  5-3 win for Leicester City over Man United.

Well, believe it or not, seven shrewd football fans took those odds and turned them into a huge payday! The customer with the highest bet of £5 scored a cool £2,500!

Nice work, lads!

Betting on the World Cup: Some crazy prop bets to throw money at

image

Got some cash to burn? Or just really don’t like a particular player or a team?

Most online betting sites let you wager on your favorite (or least favorite) teams, the likely tournament winners and top players.

And then there’s the fun stuff. And the truly insane.

Here’s a roundup of some of the wackier prop bets you can make on the World Cup through betting site Paddy Power:

  • Luis Suarez to outscore the entire England World Cup Team — 7/1
  • Lionel Messi does not score a goal — 12/1
  • Cristiano Ronaldo does not score a goal — 9/2
  • Neymar does not score a goal — 5/1
  • Andrea Pirlo to score direct from a free kick outside the box during any match — 2/1
  • Any goalkeeper to do a scorpion kick — 66/1
  • Player fails a drugs test during the tournament — 6/1
  • Any English player to cry when eliminated — 2/5

We’re no gambling experts at the FOX Soccer towers, but it’s pretty safe to assume that Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar will NOT be held scoreless in Brazil this summer.

Porno site, weathercaster pay bets after France seals World Cup ticket

image

Pornography mogul Marc Dorcel found an avalanche of users eager to cash in on his bet. (Image provided by Getty)

There are a few things we learned when France dug themselves out of a huge hole and qualified for the World Cup against Ukraine:

  1. Never bet against the down-but-not-out Les Bleus
  2. The French have an affinity for bets involving nudity

First on the docket, one of France’s biggest pornography producers (so we’ve heard), Marc Dorcel. Owner of website of a mature nature, Dorcel offered to remove the pay wall on his site if France managed to qualify.

Once the final whistle blew and France were through, Dorcel’s site crashed in 45 seconds. To Dorcel and his staff’s credit, they tried to protect themselves against the droves of members looking for free content, but alas, accidents happen.

Of course, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise. We all know how guys react to free porn:

Ghislain Faribeault, Dorcel’s Vice President of Media, told the French press:

"Seeing the score change in a positive way, we started to try and beef up our servers and prepare for scalability. We decided this operation in a bit in a hurry. But we did not expect such a result!"

Luckily, it seems nobody left empty-handed. Dorcel’s company quickly set up additional website to help handle the load, and users got the free media they were assured.

Now, not to be outdone, French weathercaster Doria Tillier had a lot of the web wondering if she’d come through on her promise to do the weather in the buff once Les Bleus sealed their ticket to next year’s summer bash in Brazil.

Well, Tillier came through on her promise. Indeed, scantily glad in nothing but a pair of boots, Tillier ran around a lush green field while cheering:

You didn’t really expect to SEE anything unmentionable, did you? It might be foreign TV, but there ARE standards of decency.

Speaking of decency, our favorite part of the video? The sound of nearby church bells ringing as Tillier frolics about. We’re hoping nobody saw anything too titillating.

Grandpa hits jackpot after betting on grandson’s international debut

How’s this for a wager?

In the 87th minute of Wales’ World Cup qualifier against Belgium, 16-year-old Harry Wilson entered the match to became his country’s youngest-ever senior player. As great of a moment as it was for Wilson, it was perhaps even better for his grandfather, who fifteen years ago wagered £50 that Harry would suit up for Wales’ senior team one day:

Wilson’s grandfather, Peter Edwards, was given 2,500/1 odds by a bookmaker in 2000 for the bet, when Wilson was just 18 months old. He’s now £125,000 richer, and, at age 62, is set to retire a year earlier than he planned.

Edwards told the BBC:

"I was shattered because I had to wait for 85, 86 minutes before he came on and I was panicking because they’d already substituted twice, so I thought he wasn’t going to make it.

But when he came on I had another glass of wine. (I was) a proud granddad first for sure.”

If Wilson doesn’t receive the best Christmas present of his life from his grandpa this year, something is seriously wrong.
