Francesco Totti trolls new teammate Ashley Cole

Remember the Roma team picture from last week featuring an isolated Ashley Cole looking like an outcast?

The picture made the rounds last week on social media, inspiring a meme and even its own Twitter handle, @LurkingAshley.

Cole himself couldn’t help but laugh at himself:

Now, Roma captain Francesco Totti has provided the icing on the cake.

For the squad’s latest team photo (on the Rocky Steps, no less), Totti deliberately “pulled an Ashley” and stood off to the side. Check it out:

Totti. What a legend!

Ashley Cole the odd man out in Roma team picture

Ashely Cole seems to be fitting in splendidly with new club AS Roma.

The long-time Premier League defender made the bold move out of England this summer to join the reigning Serie A runners-up, and based on this team picture from their United States tour, it looks like Cole’s having a bit of a tough time making new friends!

Take it away, Celine …

Chelsea players look exactly like soccer players while shooting hoops

Despite what is looking increasingly like a trophy-less season for Chelsea, it looks like the Blues aren’t spending too much time sulking.

Chelsea TV caught footage of some of the players playing a pickup game of basketball during training. We’re hoping it was just a fun way to stay fit, because if this was meant to showcase any skills for a prospective career-switch, they’re barking up the wrong tree.

You can tell these gents spent the bulk of their time using their feet, not their hands. It’d be like asking a carpenter to use his feet to build a set of stairs. Sure, the job would get done (maybe), but it certainly wouldn’t look natural.

One lesson we can extract from this video, though? David Luiz is as gun-shy from distance with a basketball as he is with a soccer ball. Brick city! Oh, and don’t forget to watch out for Jon Obi Mikel playing some Dennis Rodman defense on Cesar Azpilicueta.

Back in December, Bayern Munich’s stars also tried their hand at basketball, with similar results. Check it out here.

United, Chelsea start battle for PSG striker Cavani

The fight for Edinson Cavani’s signature is already under way, according to one of the UK’s national newspapers. Represenatives of the PSG striker were in London Thursday which prompted speculation Manchester United and Chelsea did not waste any time in trying to procure his services.

We’ve got the latest on a rival to Manchester City in their bid to land midfielder Fernando, who will leave Porto in the summer, plus stories on Liverpool, Ashley Cole and Adnan Januzaj. Click here for more. Β

Liverpool look to Blues defender

Chelsea have a wealth of defenders at Stamford Bridge and Jose Mourinho may look to offload a few in the transfer window. Mourinho has frozen Ashley Cole out of the starting 11, preferringΒ Cesar Azpilicueta on the left-hand side of defense.Β

Today’s newspapers report that the Blues’ third-choice Ryan Bertrand could be on his way out the door. The likely destination is Merseyside, where both Liverpool and Everton are admirers of the 24-year-old.

Cole, Alonso heading in opposite directions?

Just two days to go before the transfer window reopens and Chelsea are getting itchy fingers. Jose Mourinho is thought to be preparing a move fro Xabi Alonso, who has shunned contract talks with Real Madrid. Interestingly, Ashley Cole has been linked with a move in the opposite direction. Click here for all of the the pre-window gossip from the UK press.

Cole the latest Chelsea star linked with Major League Soccer

Jermain Defoe’s protracted move to Toronto seems to be the continuation of a new trend in soccer transfers - with players being linked to moves between the Premier League and MLS almost constantly.

LA Galaxy stars Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane have recently been linked to loan moves to the so-called ‘biggest league in the world’, as has Seattle Sounders midfielder Clint Dempsey.

This next rumor is a biggy, though. According to one of the Sunday newspapers over in the UK, Champions League winner and England and Chelsea star Ashley Cole is being eyed up by two MLS sides for a summer switch.

Find out who and take a look at the rest of the day’s rumors in today’s Paper Chase.

Ashley Cole’s mom hints to PSG move via…yep, Facebook

Let’s face it, we all cringe when we get that Facebook friend request from mom or dad, or they comment on our status updates, or you see they posted baby pictures…

But that doesn’t compare to what Ashley Cole must be feeling right now after his mother took to Facebook to announce to the world that her baby will likely be off to Paris St Germain after this season. No really.

Here’s what she wrote: “Well looks like his going somewhere better hear than the talk of man u. Not too far on the Euro Star x.” [sic]

Added to her admittedly poorly-written post is a link to a report that PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti has already had talks with the longtime Chelsea fullback.

Sure, by no means does this indicate a done deal, but with Chelsea only offering Cole a 1-year deal, the math adds up for a potential PSG move, and this post only adds fuel to the rumor fire.

After all, a mother knows best right?
