Premier League relegation battle

image

With 2 weeks remaining, there are still 10 Premier League teams that can be mathematically relegated to the npower Championship. To say that every game left on the team’s schedule is a must-win would be a drastic understatement.

Here are just a few of the matches that could be the difference between survival and relegation:

  • 5/7: Wigan vs Swansea City
  • 5/12: QPR vs Newcastle
  • 5/12: Southampton vs Sunderland
  • 5/19: Wigan vs Aston Villa

Andy Carroll takes flight into De Gea

image

In West Ham United’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United, Andy Carroll makes a bold attempt to take off and fly. Unfortunately for him, Manchester United keeper David De Gea found himself in the way. No card was given, much to the dismay of Sir Alex Ferguson, but in Carroll’s defense, it certainly appeared he was simply making a play on the ball.

Should he have been booked? Watch the play at full speed and decide for yourself.

West Ham fans are in the running for best chant of the year.

While Jonjo Shelvey was warming up near the away section during Sunday’s scoreless draw between Liverpool and the Hammers, the West Ham supporters serenaded him with this gem:

“Harry Potter is coming for you!”

Shelvey, who bears a resemblance to Lord Voldemort, took it well and laughed it off, seeming to enjoy the light-hearted abuse. Well done, West Ham fans.

Olympic race won

The question of how London’s Olympic Stadium would look as a soccer arena was answered, partly at least, on Friday when West Ham were confirmed as tennants from 2016.

The images show how the scene might look when Manchester United arrive in the East End. Now a new home has been secured, all the Hammers need to focus on now is making sure they remain in the Premier League by the time they get the keys in 2016.

Terry taunt?

While warming up during Chelsea’s game against West Ham, John Terry extended his stretches down near the corner flag in what appeared to be a cheeky little display to the opposing team’s fans.

Was it on purpose? It sure seems like it — but we’ll leave that judgement up to you.

We’re taking it back, way back to 1996.

West Ham manager at the time, Harry Redknapp, was approached by a Hammers fan during a press conference and defended his decision to stick with a young 17-year-old Frank Lampard instead of Scott Canham (who?).

Turns out, Redknapp was right. Lampard will go down as one of the best midfielders of his generation and top England players of his time. Canham (who again?) on the other hand, will forever be a distant memory.

Brilliant stuff, Harry.
