Vincent Kompany opens his own sports bar

image

The next time Manchester City win a major trophy — or if Belgium shocks the world this summer — Vincent Kompany will have just the place to invite the boys for a little celebration. The Citizens’ captain is now the proud owner of two new sports bars in his native Belgium.

Fittingly named “Good Kompany” (we’ll spare you the bad joke), the bars are located in a pair of tourism hot spots, Brussel’s Grote Markt and on the Groenplaats in Antwerp.

And as any great sports bar should, “Good Kompany” features a strong variety of libations, a wait staff dressed in referee uniforms and can host parties at night. Of course, there’s also an abundance of signed, game-worn jerseys and boots everywhere.

Nasri looks on in horror as Kompany drops Capital One Cup

Vincent Kompany captained Manchester City to their first League Cup title since 1976 on Sunday, and nearly broke the trophy.

Kompany almost dropped the Capital One Cup mid-lift when its detachable base slipped out of the Belgian’s hands. The base didn’t make it, but Kompany went on to hoist the remains as if nothing ever happened.

Samir Nasri was not as calm.

Belgium captain Vincent Kompany gets an eyeful

image

The expression ‘taking one for the team’ could not be more apt in the case of Vincent Kompany who played for an hour of Belgium’s 2-1 win against Serbia with a concussion, a broken nose and a fractured eye socket. The Manchester City defender was clattered by Serbian goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic half an hour into the game and needed treatment on the sidelines before the Belgium skipper carried on. He tweeetd this picture of himself later and said: “What wouldn’t you do for your country, eh?”

Captain Fantastic or what?

Manchester City, NY Yankees team up to own New York City FC

It was announced on Tuesday that Manchester City and the New York Yankees will be owners of the 20th team in MLS: New York City FC.

Baseball and soccer coming together? With their powers combined, NYC FC could become a wildly popular and successful club in the heart of the Big Apple.

We let our imaginations run wild at the thought of these two sports giants teaming up, and conjured up this alternate universe where Yankees captain Derek Jeter and City captain Vincent Kompany swapped lives…

No, that just looks wrong. We like the universe just the way it is.
