Wayne Rooney removes “Manchester United player” from Twitter bio

Wayne Rooney had requested a transfer that was adamantly denied by the club’s front office. Manchester United has insisted that the striker is not for sale. In the latest move in what is surely going to be a long game of cat and mouse, Rooney made some changes in the social media world.

He has removed the term “Manchester United player” from his Twitter bio and replaced it with NikeUK Athlete. Just another sign of disgruntlement from the English star.

Start of a new dynasty?

Bayern Munich flexed its powerful financial muscle once again in the Bundesliga by triggering the €37 million buyout clause for Dortmund star Mario Gotze, considered the greatest German talent in a generation. While the move itself isn’t very surprising, the timing of it certainly is.

The news broke late Monday night and into Tuesday morning, the day of Bayern’s gigantic home match against Barcelona, and just two days before Dortmund’s critical clash against Real Madrid. Dortmund’s team, and especially the fans, must now show incredible resolve and togetherness in a difficult situation. They must beat Real at home to have a chance at the Champions League final where, of course, they could potentially face Gotze’s new team. What a game that would be!

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson tried his best to squash reports of Wayne Rooney’s possible exit from the club by addressing the media early Friday morning.

The United boss left Rooney out of the Red Devils’ lineup for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Real Madrid, prompting many to speculate Fergie’s willingness to accept a transfer bid later this summer.

“Wayne will be here next year, you have my word on that. There is no issue between myself and Wayne Rooney. To suggest we don’t talk is nonsense.

“He understood the reasons completely. Tactically we got it right. We don’t always but we did then. There are no issues with the player and he will be involved on Sunday.”

Of course he understood, Fergie. Tuesday’s match was nothing “special.” It’s not like players want to showcase their skills in big stages, right? We don’t buy it, and you shouldn’t either. So we gotta ask, is Rooney staying or leaving Old Trafford?
