Gareth Bale issued speeding ticket for brilliant solo goal

The local police in Valencia have quite the sense of humor. After Gareth Bale score his absurdly amazing solo goal to give Real Madrid the Copa del Rey trophy, the cops issued him a fake but totally hilarious speeding ticket.

Well played, Valencia cops.

Not only that, but there’s some great humor in the details as well.

Iniesta ignores young pitch invader while she hugs him

We’re sure that Andres Iniesta normally loves the support of his fans, but when a young girl ran onto the field to hug her idol after Barcelona’s loss to Granada on Saturday, we can’t blame him for trying to brush her off.

Her timing was less than ideal: it was during a TV interview. After a loss. To a team that hasn’t defeated your club since 1972.

Come on, kiddo. Not cool.

You have to give her credit for her commitment to the hug. That girl has a death-grip on Iniesta’s waist. But was it worth the inevitable months of being grounded?

Ex-Valencia president arrested in plot to kidnap successor

image

Trouble with the law: Former Valencia president Juan Soler (R) was arrested on Wednesday.

Former Valencia president Juan Soler has been arrested in connection with an attempt to kidnap his successor at the club, Vicente Soriano.

According to multiple reports from Spain, Soler spent the night in prison after facing magistrates over his alleged involvement in the plot, but was released on bail.

Under the terms of his bail, Soler, 58, cannot leave Spain while the investigation continues and must go to court every two weeks. He has also been issued a restraining order forbidding him from coming with 15 meters of Soriano.

Soler and Soriano’s contentious relationship escalated in 2009, when Soriano purchased Soler’s shares with the Spanish Primera Division side. Claiming he was still owed money in the transaction, Soler then took Soriano to court.

In happier times: Vicente Soriano (L) purchased Juan Soler’s club shares in 2009.

Investigators believe the kidnapping plot, which Soler is suspected of hiring hit men to carry out, was an attempt to recover the funds in question. Police foiled the plot, however, and instructed Soriano to remain in his home.

Although both men are no longer associated with the Club — Amadeo Salvo is Valencia’s current president — it’s certainly a bizarre turn of events that we’ll be sure to monitor.

Homer becomes referee in ‘The Simpsons’ World Cup episode

The long-anticipated Simpsons episode revolving around the 2014 World Cup finally aired this week, and it didn’t disappoint.

After Homer Simpson referees one of Lisa’s soccer games and aptly punishes her for diving, our favorite yellow, beer-bellied hero immediately gets called up to officiate the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

There, his resolve is tested by the theatrics of a player dubbed “El Divo,” who has a penchant for — you guessed it — diving, and bribing officials.

As you can see in the video above, though, Homer is not intimidated, showing the kind of toughness that would make referee legend Pierluigi Collina proud.

Among the games Homer officiates are both the opening match, played between hosts Brazil and — wait for it — Luxembourg (!), as well as the final, Brazil vs Germany. Ahead of the final, Homer again must resist the urge of taking bribes, this time to ensure that Brazil will win. Homer heroically declines, and as a result Germany come out 2-0 winners.

His performances clearly impressed legendary Spanish commentator Andrés Cantor:

Gerard Pique to Shakira: No more music videos with men

image

Ever wonder why Shakira and Rihanna teamed up to make that sultry “Can’t Remember to Forget You” video? Guess what: it was all Gerard Pique’s fault.

According to an interview with Billboard Magazine, the Voice coach isn’t allowed to perform in music videos with other men anymore, per request by her baby daddy Pique.

"He’s very territorial," Shakira told Billboard. "Since he no longer lets me do videos with men, well, I have to do them with women."

Shakira went on to say, “It’s more than implied in our relationship that I can’t do videos like I used to. It’s out of the question, which I like, by the way. I like that he protects his turf and he values me, in a way that the only person that he would ever let graze my thigh would be Rihanna.”

And as you can see below, Rihanna does indeed, uh, graze her thigh.

It’s pretty clear Shakira has her fair share of admirers, all of which will be disappointed to hear the news that’s she’s being so closely protected by her man:

Be careful, kid. Pique probably won’t like that.

Nike Soccer unveils new Magista football boot

image

BARCELONA — With the help of hometown hero Andres Iniesta, Nike lifted the lid on the radical new design in Barcelona unveiling their latest addition to its Flynit technology family: the Magista Football boot.

The Magista features a Dynamic Fit collar that rises past the ankle, an almost sock-like feature. “With Magista, we’ve designed a shoe that feels like an extension of the player’s body. This isn’t a boot that just goes on your foot, it’s a boot that works with your foot,” Nike’s VP of Sport Performance Footwear Phil McCartney said during Thursday’s event. “By eliminating distractions, players are free to unlock their potential and creativity.”

Barcelona’s star midfielder was equally impressed as well.
