Ronaldo treats fan who woke from coma listening to his games

Cristiano Ronaldo is at it again.

It was only last month that CR7 paid for a young fan’s brain surgery, and here he is producing yet another reason for why, regardless of your opinion of him, he deserves your respect and admiration.

Fourteen-year old Ronaldo fan Dawid Pawlaczyk was in a coma for three months after getting hit by a car, during which time his family had been playing Ronaldo’s matches for Dawid to listen to. In a magical coincidence, according to Yahoo, the boy finally woke up on the same day his favorite player shot Portugal past Sweden in the World Cup qualifying play-offs.

After Polish outlet Fakt contacted Ronaldo about the story, the selfless star immediately treated the boy and his family to a trip to Madrid for Real’s Champions League clash against Dortmund, even giving the boy his jersey after the game.

And so the legend of Cristiano Ronaldo grows a little more.

Pele, CR7 fight for fans’ affection in airline ad

It’s always humbling to find oneself in the presence of greatness. But what if two equally-great stars happen to be on the same flight?

Emirates Airline explores that very scenario in a new advertisement that comes just in time for the World Cup.

In the ad, Cristiano Ronaldo emerges from a fancy first-class bathroom and walks over to the even fancier onboard bar, when he overhears two fellow passengers whispering to each other. Cracking a smile, Ronaldo figures they’re talking about him like two giggly schoolgirls. But when the two talk about the “three World Cups” he’s won, the Portuguese star suddenly realizes he was mistaken. At that moment, the great Pele appears, smirking all the way as if to say “Calm down, rookie. They’re here for me.”

But to show that Emirates “connect all football fans,” no matter who they might adore, a third, younger passenger appears and asks for a picture with Ronaldo, presumably not recognizing the great Pele, which is absurd. The two legends smile at each other like, coming to the understanding that “hey, we are both so awesome.”

And then they all fly off to Brazil together, happily ever after. Because who wouldn’t be if they can afford a seat on that ostentatious airbus!

Cristiano Ronaldo pays for young fan’s brain surgery

This is the type of tear-jerker story that draws us closer to our idols, and reveals the human side of larger-than-life athletes.

Ten-month old Erik Ortiz Cruz suffers from cortical dysplasia — a brain abnormality that can cause up to 30 seizures each day — and his family has been desperately looking for help.

Without brain surgery, Erik’s seizures can only worsen and lead to more developmental problems in the future. With one, Erik could win a second chance at life. But the operation costs $83,000 alone, necessary follow-up tests an additional $8,000+ each. Attempts to raise money by Erik’s family haven’t nearly been enough to cover the costs.

Running out of options, a Cruz family friend reportedly reached out to Cristiano Ronaldo, asking if he could donate some signed jerseys or boots to auction off. Not only did Ronaldo happily agree to the donations after hearing of Erik’s plight, he pledged to pay the entire sum of his medical costs and visit the young Merengue in the hospital!

Ronaldo may have plenty of haters in the world, but he just won another fan for life.

Atletico Madrid dump ball boy who pranked Ronaldo

Remember the Atletico ball boy who gave Cristiano Ronaldo a hard time in the Madrid derby two weekends ago?

The young teen — now identified as Iván — famously baited Ronaldo with a ball before chucking it away from him, a blatant and bold attempt at time-wasting. The act drew both criticism and laughter in social media circles, but the fun’s over now. According to Marca, the self-confessed “Atleti fan and player from the age of 9”  has been pulled from first-team duty following the incident.

Iván reportedly bragged about his actions in the days following the match, but he now expresses remorse for his actions. After deleting all the brash messages he wrote in the aftermath of the match, Iván posted an apology in their place: “I apologise for anything I said about the derby match, because that’s not the Atlético de Madrid ball boy way. Come on Atleti!”

Luis Figo tweets dressing room pic that rivals ‘Oscar Selfie’

On Tuesday, an assortment of football legends assembled in Bern, Switzerland to play ‘BSC Young Boys and Friends’ in the eleventh “Match Against Poverty,” an annual charity game with this year’s proceeds going to the Philippines. The World XI was dubbed ‘Ronaldo, Zidane and Friends’ and featured many of the best players from the past 25 years.

The friendly match came just two days after Ellen DeGeneres broke Twitter with her insta-famous ‘Oscar Selfie.’ So, appropriately, Luis Figo  turned in his own effort, which may have broken the Twitter record for most football legends in one picture:

We spot Ronaldo, Zidane, Paolo Maldini, Youri Djorkaeff, Steve McManaman, Patrick Vieira, Giovane Elber, Fabio Cannavaro and coach Ruud Gullit. Who else can you see?

Cristiano Ronaldo gets owned by ball boy

Cristiano Ronaldo has millions of fans. The ball boys at the Vicente Calderon are not among them.

With Real Madrid trailing city rivals Atletico 2-1 late in the second half on Sunday, one mischievous sideline volunteer took the opportunity to play Ronaldo like a piano.

With time running out and Real set to take a corner kick, Ronaldo grew impatient waiting for a new ball to be thrown to him. Spotting a ball boy nearby, Ronaldo quickly waved over to him, visibly agitated. But the kid merely shrugged his shoulders insolently and held out his arm with the ball in hand, signaling Ronaldo to “come and get it.” When Ronaldo did, the boy deviously chucked the ball past him. So. Owned.

As we all know, however, Ronaldo did have the last laugh. His equalizer in the 82nd minute thwarted Atletico’s hopes of clinching the first derby double in 63 years (and probably ruined that kid’s night).

Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Carlos Tevez and Adnan Januzaj all celebrate their birthday today

Happy Birthday, boys!

Cristiano Ronaldo, the reigning world player of the year, turns 29 years young today, and even the great Zlatan Ibrahimovic took a minute out of his day to personally congratulate CR7 on Twitter:

Ronaldo responded brilliantly:

Your move, Zlatan.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s Barcelona rival Neymar was also born today, albeit seven years later. Two mega stars born on one day? Not bad! Thankfully, they will spoil us with their amazing goals for many more years to come, but take a look back now at their already incredible careers:

And if that wasn’t enough birthday candles for one day, Carlos Tevez (30) and Adnan Januzaj (19) are also celebrating their birthdays today. Clearly, there must be something very special about February 5th!
