Trendsetter? ‘Persieing’ is actually a thing now

After Robin van Persie’s flying golazo against Spain last Friday, the Dutch striker belly-flopped on the pitch.

Now everyone is doing it.

Well at least van Persie’s 93-year-old grandfather.

Okay, the Dutch Embassy staff too.

Actually, there are dozens of pictures of people doing it. There’s even hashtag for it, #persieing. Explore it at your own risk.

Lifelong Manchester United fan scores first two goals for the club

Surrounded by teammates like Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, it can be a difficult task for a Manchester United youngster to make a name for himself. More so when that youngster has been a lifelong supporter of the club and is fully aware of the overwhelming sense of expectation and history that follow the team wherever they go.

That said, Jesse Lingard fulfilled his dreams on Saturday night by scoring his first two goals for the club during their encounter with the A-League All-Stars:

The skillful brace fulfilled a lifelong goal not just for Jesse, but also for his mother, who took to Twitter while watching the game. While she was initially overtaken by nerves, the emotions came flooding out towards the end of the game.

Congratulations Jesse! Here’s to a long and prosperous career!

Danny Welbeck Goes For The Skill Move, Confuses Himself

Danny Welbeck might play for one of the world’s biggest clubs in Manchester United, but that doesn’t make him invincible to a mistake every now and then.

During Manchester United’s match against the Singha All-Stars Saturday evening, the first match of the team’s preseason tour, Welbeck ended up with the ball near the opposition’s corner flag. As Welbeck is prone to do, he attempted a skill move to move past his defender. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work out, as the English star accidentally kicked the ball out of bounds.

We think the announcer summed it perfectly: “Oh, Danny, Danny…”
