Blues plan to hijack Liverpool transfer swoop

Chelsea have a big stash of cash to spend now that Juan Mata is seemingly on his way to Manchester United. And with that in mind the Premier League title hopefuls are planning a couple of transfer-window coups. Mohamed Salah has long been linked with Liverpool, but the Blues are hoping to hijack that deal this month. Real Sociedad striker Antoine Griezmann is also reportedly on their radar - plus Jose Mourinho also has a big summer signing in mind. Just click here for the best transfer-window gossip.

Griezmann scores wonder goal against boyhood club Lyon

Real Sociedad’s Antoine Griezmann used to live for Olympique Lyonnais, and on the day before his Champions League playoff encounter against his boyhood club, was understandably overcome with emotion:

"The moment I stepped on the Stade de Gerland pitch, I felt a lot of emotions," Griezmann said after Monday’s practice. "I even pointed out the spots in the stands where I used to sit. I can’t wait until I put my boots on tomorrow. But there’s no feeling of revenge: I just want to play."

Griezmann, who as a little boy used to come to the Stade de Gerland with his father for every Champions League game, didn’t merely “show up” to play Tuesday. In fact, he may have scored the finest goal of this year’s UCL season — and the real competition hasn’t even begun yet — with a sensational scissor kick goal that would make Wayne Rooney blush.

Griezmann was also involved in Sociedad’s second breathtaking goal of the match, which gave the La Liga side a decisive advantage heading into the return leg:

While Griezmann can be happy with his Man of the Match performance, sending his boyhood club to the brink of Champions League elimination probably made for some awkward post-game handshakes.

If you haven’t seen Falcao’s amazing 90th minute free kick goal for Atletico Madrid yet, stop what you’re doing and watch this now. The 26-year-old is on fire — and everyone is taking notice. Don’t be surprised if the Colombian striker makes a move in the January transfer window.

Falcao’s game-winner against Real Sociedad helped Atletico maintain their unbeaten streak this season. The only other team who hasn’t lost in La Liga yet this year? Barcelona. Not bad company to keep!
