Giovanni Simeone’s new haircut was the center of attention at River Plate’s training ground earlier this week.
Simeone, the 18-year-old son of former Argentine great and current Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, received the thrill of a lifetime when River Plate manager Ramon Diaz announced his inclusion in River’s first-team squad. The young forward was in for another shock when his teammates celebrated his selection by giving the hot-shot striker an “interesting” haircut.
Just as he is unfazed in front of goal, Simeone remained focused and upbeat during a recent interview with La Red:
I’m truly excited. I worked hard for over a year to achieve this goal,” Simeone said. “I move without the ball looking for spaces. As a kid, when my father gave me my first ball, I always played football. I always hoped to reach this day. I’ll enjoy this moment for now and get back to work tomorrow.
Despite the positivity, Simeone’s hairdo will still go down as a candidate for 2013’s “worst haircut of the year award.” Will Simeone’s padre style coiffure rival Raheem Sterling’s recent masterpiece? At least Simeone didn’t cut his that way on purpose. You be the judge:
