Radamel Falcao, Steven Gerrard try out for MLB career

image

As has become tradition, many of the best European clubs are in the United States for a preseason tour, and once again, quite a few stars are finding time to try their hands at American sports.

Last summer, you may remember Juventus star Andrea Pirlo trying out at American Football. This year, baseball seems to be the sport of choice.

While in Miami for Monaco’s friendly vs Colombian side, Radamel Falcao went to the Marlins Stadium batting cages to take a few cuts, and he was quite impressive, too. Falcao lined a couple of frozen ropes straight back to the pitcher, almost decapitating him on one of them! WATCH:

Meanwhile, on the northern end of the Atlantic coast, in Boston, Liverpool players also took some batting practice before their friendly match against Roma at Fenway Park.

Based on his form, Steven Gerrard might need to take a few pointers from Falcao next time they see each other:

Falcao returns to training, but is unlikely to be fully fit for World Cup

Five months after tearing his left ACL in a French Cup match, Monaco forward Radamel Falcao is back in training.

However, his chances at fully recovering in time for the World Cup appear to be slim. In fact, French newspaper L’Equipe has already reported that the Colombian striker will miss this summer’s spectacle, despite Jose Pekerman including him in his provisional squad.

With a little under a month to go, we’re not ready to rule him out entirely just yet. But Falcao still has a tall mountain to climb.

Colombian kid bursts into tears upon meeting idol Radamel Falcao

Warning, you might want to get your Kleenex handy before watching. This video will surely make your heart melt.

Adding reason No. 1,234 why we love Radamel Falcao to the list.

Falcao, who tore his anterior crucial ligament back in January, is currently in Madrid rehabbing his left knee and remains hopeful of returning for Colombia before this summer’s World Cup. Yet, Falcao’s hectic schedule didn’t stop him from helping make a young fan’s dream come true.

Thanks to the Revel Foundation, Michael Steven, a 13-year-old aspiring footballer from Bogota, Colombia, met with the Colombian superstar in an emotional meeting that made the Monaco ace himself come to tears.

Michael, who admits to having over 130 photos and newspaper clippings of Falcao in his bedroom wall, cried uncontrollably upon setting eyes on “El Tigre” and refused to let go of his soccer idol with his mighty grip. Emotions run deep later in the clip when Michael touches Falcao’s knees (2:32), wishing for the striker’s speedy recovery to help Colombia’s World Cup hopes.

Pause. Reach. Grab. Tissue.

Monaco start search for Falcao’s replacement

Money makes the world go round and the same is certainly true in the transfer window. Radamel Falcao’s serious injury has prompted Monaco to start looking for a replacement - and they have two very different characters in mind, one a saint the other a sinner…Dani Osvaldo is a saint in one sense (he plays for Southampton) but his temper got the better of him in a training-ground incident with defender Jose Fonte which resulted in a two-week suspension. His days at St Mary’s look to be numbered and he has been earmarked by Monaco to fill the gap the left by Falcao.

Javier Hernandez has also been targeted by Monaco but whether Manchester United are prepared to let him go is another matter.

We’ve also got the latest on a new Manchester United target plus rumors on Arsenal and Thibaut Courtois. Click here for more.

Monaco players send hospitalized Falcao best wishes pre-match

While Zlatan Ibrahimovic is staying busy filming Volvo commercials, his Monaco rival Radamel Falcao remains in the hospital recovering from serious knee surgery. In their first match without him, the enitre Monaco team walked out donning T-shirts bearing Falcao’s face and the message “Fuerza Tigre.”

El Tigre, who according to his surgeon still has a chance to recover in time for the World Cup, quickly took to Instragram to show that he received and appreciated the message from his teammates, writing (translated) “From Porto watching the team, thank you for the strength you give me, I am here to give you mine!”

Falcao injures knee, could spell doom for Monaco and Colombia hopes

Radamel Falcao was stretchered off with a nasty knee injury during Monaco’s Coupe de France clash on Wednesday, spelling potential doom to both Monaco’s Ligue 1 and Colombia’s World Cup hopes. Falcao picked up the injury shortly after scoring the opening goal against Monts Or Azergues.

Whether Falcao will miss the rest of the season and the summer spectacle remains to be seen, but initial reports are not encouraging. Monaco released a short statement in regards to Falcao, saying the striker was hit in the left knee and that the club “must await further tests in the coming days to clarify the exact nature of the injury.”

Perhaps a better question is why Falcao was starting against a fourth-tier outfit, which was easily beaten 3-0, in the first place. It may just cost Monaco their run at a first Ligue 1 title since 2000, and Colombia — a dark horse candidate for the World Cup — their best player in Brazil.

Mourinho targets Atletico star

image

Atletico Madrid have a habit of developing top-class strikers. Fernando Torres, Sergio Aguero, Diego Forlan, Radamel Falcao and Diego Costa have all graced the Vincente Calderon in the past seven years. Atletico seem to get a good price for their top talent and then immediately replace with players of equal capability.

Diego Costa could be the next star striker on the way out of Atletico. A host of clubs are known to be admirers and Friday’s newspapers report that Jose Mourinho is set to make him his major summer signing.
