Spanish national team goes lingerie shopping in Washington D.C.

Thank goodness for TMZ.

If it wasn’t for the gossip site’s omnipresent video cameras, we would never know how Spain’s national team players shop for their wives and girlfriends.

As it turns out, they do it the same way us regular folk do - by awkwardly browsing through Victoria’s Secret:

Ahead of their last World Cup tune-up match against El Salvador in Washington DC, Sergio Ramos, Pepe Reina, Andres Iniesta and Pedro used some of their free time to go panty shopping at the mall together.

Let’s just hope they don’t use the purchases to hold more secret strip poker tournaments in their hotel rooms.

Race heats up for Dortmund midfielder Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan may still be injured but that hasn’t prevented the top cats of Europe from sniffing around the Borussia Dortmund midfielder. Barcelona are said to have joined two Premier League clubs in wanting to sign the Germany international. We’ve also got stories on potential recruits at Arsenal and Tottenham, plus a new suitor for Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina. Click here for more.

Pepe Reina seen telling Iker Casillas to leave Real Madrid?

What is it with Spanish keepers and transfer rumors.

The future of Barcelona shot-stopper Victor Valdes has been questioned for years now, with Liverpool’s on-loan no.1 Pepe Reina reported to be heading the other way into the Camp Nou.

Recent events have seen Iker Casillas seemingly edging closer to a move from Real Madrid soon enough, with coach Carlo Ancelotti continuing Jose Mourinho’s work of putting Diego Lopez between the sticks on match days.

This latest video could be further indication of Casillas’ unhappiness at the Bernabeu, too.

Warming up before Spain’s 2-1 victory over Belarus on Friday, back-up keepers Casillas and Reina were seen chatting, unbeknownst to them that the cameras were to pick up exactly what they were saying.

Indeed, unfortunately for them, Spanish TV channel Cuatro was amongst the media at the friendly and they’ve managed to secure a now translated lip-read conversation between the two, which went something like this:

Reina: How many could it be? 10? 12? (Games you’ll play this season)

Iker: Yeah, but in the end…. -

Reina: In the end, it’s a [expletive] season… Because in the end you’re going to play, at best, 10 or 12 Cup games.

Iker: ‘But to leave now…I can’t see that happening man… at least I’ll play the Cup.

Reina: The Cup! That’s embarrassing, shameful.

Credit to Casillas for wanting to remain loyal to Los Blancos, but would a transfer breathe fresh life into the career of one of the world’s best keepers?

Pajama party! Pepe Reina takes Balotelli’s shirt to bed

Disturbing news has reached the eyes and ears of the FOX Soccer news room. Wait for it….Pepe Reina is sleeping in Mario Balotelli’s AC Milan jersey.

We have yet to discover whether the article of clothing has been washed (we hope so) but the story has been confirmed by the Liverpool goalkeeper himself. Reina became the first keeper to save a Balotelli spot-kick during Napoli’s 2-1 win at the San Siro last month and then plucked up the courage to ask the Italy striker for his jersey after the game.

Reina said: “After saving Mario’s penalty I couldn’t not ask for his shirt. It was a historic event. He gave me it and I’ve brought it home to create an unusual pair of pajamas. I sleep with his shirt and Napoli shorts.”

What does Reina’s wife Yolanda Ruiz make of it all? We have yet to find out, but would this sort of thing constitute grounds for divorce? We think so.

Keepers set to battle for Barcelona no.1 jersey

With Victor Valdes almost certainly heading towards the exit door at Camp Nou at the end of this season, one of Europe’s heavyweights are already on the hunt for his replacement.

With the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund on the rise, Gerardo Martino has already been linked with moves for German keepers Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Bernd Leno.

However, two other keepers seem to be higher on the wishlist.

Having started his career out at Barca, Liverpool’s on-loan keeper Jose Reina has been linked with a move back to the Spaniards throughout his career. A year-long loan to Napoli has signalled the end to his Liverpool career, so are Barca set to swoop?

Or will they go for the younger version? Thibaut Courtois, another on-loan shot-stopper, has impressed for a couple of years at Atletico Madrid now, and he looks set to make the step up to one of La Liga’s big two clubs.

Who will Barca get? You can read about these transfer links and many more in today’s Paper Chase.

Pepe Reina looks to have found a new career when he finally hangs up his gloves. The Liverpool goalkeeper features as a Roman soldier in Spanish film Invictus, el correo del Cesar. A potential Oscar nominee or are we talking Razzie here?
