Arsenal step up chase for Draxler

Arsenal added quality to their midfield in the summer with Mesut Ozil moving to London from Real Madrid. Along with Ozil, the reemergence of talent such as Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, means Arsene Wenger doesn’t have to pay over the odds for midfield talent.

According to one newspaper today Wenger is looking to bring in Schalke star midfielder Julian Draxler. The Gunners have reportedly discovered a £40 million buy-out clause in his contract at the Bundesliga club, and are set to swoop in January or the summer.

Real chase Man City double act

Real Madrid were linked with lots of good players over the summer transfer window. They landed their main target Gareth Bale among others and lost key midfielder Mesut Ozil. It seems Madrid will be looking for some more firepower during the January window. Today’s newspapers reckon Sergio Aguero tops their shopping list and Spanish international David Silva could also follow his colleague out of Manchester City.

Mesut Ozil plays keepy-uppy with chewing gum

It looks like there is nothing Mesut Ozil can’t do right now. After three assists in four matches for the Gunners, the German international appears to have turned around the fortunes of the club. And in his latest act of greatness, Ozil brought out the ol’ gum-juggling trick during warm-ups before Arsenal’s clash with Swansea on Saturday.

Dubbed “the Magician” more than occasionally in both Germany and Spain, Ozil proves he indeed has quite a few tricks up his sleeve. If he ever needs any extra work or a new hobby after football, surely a stint working in the circus could be his next calling.

Arsenal plots move for Bender

With German compatriots - Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker - already at the Emirates, next on Arsene Wenger’s wish list is Lars Bender. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is highly rated by the German club and will want to make sure the price is right before selling off one of their best players.

Ozil’s Arsenal debut went pretty well

When the signing of Mesut Ozil was finally announced on transfer deadline day, nobody should have been more excited than Olivier Giroud. The French striker must have been doing cartwheels in his underwear when he heard Cristiano Ronaldo’s personal assist master would henceforth supply him with goals practically served on a silver platter.

It didn’t take long, either.

Ozil needed just ten minutes in his Gunners debut to prove he is well worth the club record fee of $66 million. Check out this classy first touch and perfectly-weighted ball played to Giroud, who just needed to slot home to hand Ozil his first Premier League assist:

This should be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Arsenal won the match 3-1, but did get a late scare when Giroud went down in a heap with what looked like a non-contact knee injury. Should the prolific Frenchman — who has started the season with 4 goals in 4 EPL games — miss a few matches, Arsenal would be down to just three strikers: Yaya Sanogo, academy product Chuba Akbom and, gulp, Nicklas Bendtner.

That’s… not desirable, but in any case, Ozil’s debut should give Gunners fans plenty of confidence for the season.

Herrera open to United move in January

Relations between Manchester United and Athletic Bilbao aren’t at an all time high right now after its attempted move for Ander Herrera. However despite the animosity, the Spaniard appears keen on a move to Old Trafford but Bilbao has warned United they are not willing to be given the runaround for a second time.

Coming soon to Emirates: Backheels, lots and lots of backheels

DISCLAIMER: Might want to put the video on mute. Good grief, what choice of music!

As if Arsenal fans needed another reason to be pumped up about the Mesut Ozil signing, here’s a 2.5 minute compilation of disgusting backheel passes by the German assist master. Some of these are truly jaw-dropping!

It’s no wonder Ozil’s former Real Madrid teammates are furious over the club’s decision to sell the 24-year-old. Cristiano Ronaldo, who profited regularly from Ozil specials, has been quoted as saying he is livid over the sale, while Sergio Ramos has said “If it were up to me, Özil would be one of the last to go.”

It’s not hard to see why, but Real Madrid’s loss is the Gunners’ gain. Emirates will have lots of backheels to look forward to this season.
