Sergio Ramos punches Mario Mandzukic in the face, only sees yellow

Three months after last season’s Champions League final, Atletico and Real Madrid faced off again on Tuesday night in the first leg of the Spanish Supercopa.

In the second half, new Atletico striker and former Bayern Munich man Mario Mandzukic reintroduced himself to Sergio Ramos, charging at and landing on top of the defender after a duel in the air.

None too pleased, Ramos retaliated whilst on the ground with a clean punch to Mandzukic’s jaw, a perfectly reasonable response in MMA fighting, not so much in a football match.

We’ll see if there will be any repercussions for Ramos in the next few days. We reckon that’s worthy of just a bit more than a yellow card.

Man Utd make Mandzukic next target

Manchester United completed the signing of Juan Mata on Saturday and the Spaniard looks set to go straight into the starting line-up for Tuesday’s match. If the newspapers are to be believed, the Red Devils aren’t done yet!

The Mail on Sunday newspaper links United with moves for Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Patrick Hermmann. There is a week left of the transfer window, so the men from Old Trafford will have to be quick with any further additions.

Bayern striker Mandzukic on Arsenal’s radar

Nicklas Bendtner’s injury has thrown further into sharp focus Arsenal’s lack of depth in the striker department, so much so that the Gunners have been linked with three forwards in this morning’s UK press. Speculation has surrounded Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata before, but a new name is on the list - Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic.

We’ve also got a very interesting rumor on Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, so just click here to read all about it.

Bayern’s Mario Mandzukic loses his Champions League medal

Bayern Munich are the champions of Europe, they have every reason to get excited.

After the Champions League victory, the German squad was going crazy and partying like it was 2001. Striker Mario Mandzukic was jumping up and down just a bit too hard, however, as he lost his Champions League gold medal in the celebration.

Thankfully, Franck Ribery was there to provide yet another assist as he recovered his teammate’s medal. It makes you wonder just how durable those medals really are.

Bayern cruises past Arsenal in first leg

Bayern Munich underscored its Champions League title aspirations with a comfortable 3-1 win at the Emirates, all but sealing Arsenal’s fate and earning Bayern its first ever win in London.

Toni Kroos opened the scoring in the 7th minute with what would stand up as the goal of the game. Check out Thomas Muller’s fine cross to set up Kroos, who one-times it beautifully past Wojciech Szczęsny.

Muller scored one of his own in the 21st minute, making him the first ever German player with a goal and an assist in a UCL match in England. Lukas Podolski’s header briefly gave Arsenal hope in the second half, but then this happened:

Mark that one down as the oddest goal of the season!
