Juventus and Roma, Serie A’s top two undefeated teams, clashed on Sunday in what proved to be a wild spectacle. The first half ended 2-2 after three penalty kicks were awarded and converted. In the second, both sides were desperate to find a winner to gain some separation at the summit.
That’s when, in the 86th minute, Leonardo Bonucci showed up:
Throwback Thursday? That’s soooo yesterday.
How about a little Flashback Friday action with Dalian Atkinson instead?
Who is Dalian Atkinson? The former Aston Villa striker scored the greatest goal of the Premier League’s inaugural season exactly 22 years ago today:
Happy Anniversary, Dalian!

Here’s your long-range golazo of the week, courtesy of AS Roma’s Mattia Destro:
Destro was hotly linked with a move away from last season’s Serie A runners-up, but Roma will be happy they kept him. This highlight reel goal put them up 2-0 on Hellas Verona as Roma kept up its perfect start to the new campaign.

FC Dallas striker Blas Perez was the Man of the Match in a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, scoring both goals. But he really should’ve been named “Magician of the Match,” because Perez’s first goal was scored from a truly impossible angle:
Yeah, there’s no way he meant to do that.
Or did he?

Ireland beat Georgia (the country, not the U.S. state) 2-1 in their Euro 2016 qualifier on Sunday, but it was the losing side who provided the highlight of the match.
With Ireland up 1-0 at the time, Georgia’s Tornike Okriashvili scored a wonderful goal that brought Ireland goalkeeper David Forde to his knees, literally.
The Genk midfielder brilliantly spun away from a defender before his knuckling, long-range effort bent over the helpless Forde and into the top corner.
Here’s another angle:
Too bad they don’t hand out extra points for style.
Hulk doesn’t need to smash to be a menace on the field. Sometimes, a little solo run past three hapless defenders will do just fine, as was the case Tuesday against Standard Liege.
The robust Brazilian striker scored two goals to send Zenit into their third straight Champions League group stage. The first was a penalty kick, and the second was, well, just watch:
Sometimes, the greatest goals of the year come from the unlikeliest of sources, such as Sunday’s German Cup first-round match between Arminia Bielefeld (third division) and FC Sandhausen (2. Bundesliga).
With the underdogs ahead in the second half, Fabian Klos ripped a marvelous volley straight off a corner kick to give Bielefeld a 2-0 lead and a place in the next round. For Sandhausen, there was just no coming back from a golazo of these epic proportions.

There’s a lot of excitement in the air as the Premier League kicks off anew on Saturday, but we’ve probably already seen the most exciting match of the weekend, and it was in the First Round of the German Cup.
Mainz 05 and third-division club Chemnitzer FC offered fans an incredible football spectacle featuring ten goals and a penalty shootout. The highlight came on the very last play in extra time, when Mainz’s Johannes Geis scored from 60 yards to force an unlikely penalty shootout.
Just two minutes earlier, Chemnitz though they had scored the winner over the Bundesliga side, but Geis took advantage of a terrible goal kick by Philipp Pentke to extend the nerve-wracking affair. Pentke, however, would redeem himself in the shootout and seal the upset for Chemnitz.

A month ago, we were watching what we thought were the final phases of the “World Cup of Goals.”
Instead, it looks like it’s far from over. The ladies at the Under-20 Women’s World Cup have picked up right where the men in Brazil left off - scoring worldies left and right.
First, France’s Claire Lavogez defied physics with a hit that rainbowed over the keeper to finish off a beautiful team move. And now, England’s Beth Mead goes on and does this:
