Paderborn’s Marvin Ducksch hits incredible volley goal

image

Newly-promoted Paderborn continue to stir up the Bundesliga with good results and even better goals in their debut season.

Last month, Moritz Stoppelkamp broke a league record with a goal from 80 yards (!) out, and, on Sunday, Marvin Ducksch put away this tidy finish to help Paderborn to a 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt:

Tipped by most experts to finish in last place before the season, Paderborn have instead lost just two of their first eight games — and those defeats were to first-placed Bayern and second-placed Borussia Mönchengladbach — to put them securely in the top half of the table. With a few more golazos, the surprise team of the season might even stay there.

Wesley Sneijder scores pair of golazos in Galatasaray win

imageBitter rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahce were deadlocked at 0-0 in the final minutes of Saturday’s Super Lig bout when Wesley Sneijder decided to TURN UP.

In the 88th minute, the Dutch international decided to let it fly from a good 25 yards and buried his screamer into the top corner for the Galatasaray lead:

And because it worked out so well the first time, Sneijder unleashed another worldie just two minutes later to make it 2-0:

Hey defense, how about someone steps up on that guy?

Fenerbahce pegged one back in injury time, but it was too little too late (and too much Sneijder) to prevent Galatasaray’s win.

Xabi Alonso’s first goal for Bayern was genius

image

Xabi Alonso has been dazzling for Bayern Munich this season, bossing the midfield almost immediately since coming over from Real Madrid. He leads the Bundesliga in touches per game and broke the all-time records for most in one game with 204 touches against Cologne. He was similarly dominant on Saturday:

The one thing he hadn’t done yet was score, but that changed Saturday. Alonso opened his Bayern account in brilliant fashion, duping the Werder Bremen wall with a low free kick after two dummy runs by his teammates.

The goal put Bayern up 2-0 on struggling Werder. They would eventually win out 6-0.

Colombia playmaker James Rodriguez scores cheeky winner vs. Canada

image

There’s almost nothing better than watching James Rodriguez play for the Colombian national team. No slight to Real Madrid, but something just seems to click whenever he puts on the yellow shirt. Something extra special.

On Tuesday night, James was at it again, deciding Colombia’s friendly match against Canada with this perfectly taken quick free kick in the 74th minute:

Isco scores delicious chip during Spain’s practice

image

Remember Isco?

You know, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder whom Real Madrid bought for $38 million two summers ago only to become the world’s most expensive bench-warmer?

Yeah, that guy apparently still knows how to play football, judging from this video from a recent Spain practice:

We wouldn’t be surprised if this tape shows up “anonymously” at Carlo Ancelotti’s doorstep today.

Fiorentina score pair of screamers against struggling Inter Milan

imageInter Milan had ambitious goals for the new season, but their poor form continued this weekend with a loss at Fiorentina.

Khouma Babacar started the fireworks in the seventh minute with this audacious long-range strike:

And because it is so fun to score on Inter right now, La Viola teammate Juan Cuadrado added a second golazo just 12 minutes later:

Inter would concede a third, less spectacular goal in the second half to drop their second match in a row. They currently sit in 10th place in Serie A, already ten points behind first-place Juventus.

Fiorentina, meanwhile, jumped Inter in the tables for 9th, putting an end to their own slow start.

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci scores stunning winner vs Roma

image

Juventus and Roma, Serie A’s top two undefeated teams, clashed on Sunday in what proved to be a wild spectacle. The first half ended 2-2 after three penalty kicks were awarded and converted. In the second, both sides were desperate to find a winner to gain some separation at the summit.

That’s when, in the 86th minute, Leonardo Bonucci showed up:

Game, blouses.

Lewandowski scores superb goal to get on track in Bundesliga

image

Bad news, Bundesliga. Robert Lewandowski is starting to find his scoring touch again.

After netting just twice in his first eight games as a Bayern Munich player, the 26-year-old bagged his first brace for his new club in a 4-0 win over Hannover.

His second goal was of particularly high quality. Lewandowski took down a perfect Xherdan Shaqiri cross with a wonderful first touch in stride, then slotted home coolly past goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler. It’s the kind of goal that will give Bayern fans hope Lewandowski is finally about to break out.

The rest of the league will be less enthusiastic.

Francesco Totti becomes oldest goalscorer in Champions League era

image

Heroes grow old. Legends never die.

Roma’s ageless wonder and captain Francesco Totti etched his name in the record books on Tuesday, scoring the visitors’ equalizing goal to become the oldest goalscorer in Champions League history.

At 38 years and 3 days old, Totti passed Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs (37 and 290 days) for the record with a lovely little chip over Joe Hart.  A spectacular goal from a spectacular player, who proved once more that age is nothing but a number.
