With FIFA’s Ballon D’or 2012 award ceremony only a few weeks away, we take a look back at the only goalkeeper to to hold the award: Lev Yashin.

Yashin played for Dynamo Moscow from 1950-1970, with a total of 326 appearances and 1 goal to his credit. Nicknamed the “Black Spider,” Yashin also made 78 international appearances for the Soviet Union. The ex- Dynamo Moscow keeper also holds the honor of being voted the best goalkeeper of the 20th century by the IFFHS.

Sit back and watch as we honor one of the all-time greats in world football.

No this actually isn’t a re-blog from Thursday.

Russia’s match between heavyweights Zenit St. Petersburg and Dynamo Moscow had to be abandoned Saturday after yet another ugly instance of fans throwing flares onto the pitch and hitting players. This time the victim is Dynamo goalkeeper Antonio Shunin.

There truly seems to be no end to this madness at the moment. How in the world can fans still sneak in these pyrotechnics every week? And when will soccer’s governing bodies step in to actually do something about this?
