Maradona slaps journalist for allegedly winking at his baby’s mother

image

It’s been a while since we’ve peeked under the tent of the circus that is Diego Maradona’s life. This latest video of the Argentinian legend is a nice reminder: Don’t mess with Maradona.

The video begins with Maradona (with his son, Diego Fernando, in his arms and Diego Fernando’s mother, Veronica Ojeda in the passenger seat) already fired up.

A throng of reporters stopped the Maradona clan as they reportedly left a theater, and the elder Diego was none too pleased. Clearly upset with the media, a defiant Maradona claims, “I am 53 years old and I’m not the “Dieguito,” I’m 53 years old and my name is Diego Armando Maradona!" before rolling up his window.

The video then cuts to a wider shot, showing Maradona exit the car, confront a reporter and slap the man, allegedly for winking at Ojeda.

Maradona asks the man, “Why mess with my wife if I do not mess with you?” before slapping him across the face.

No doubt, a mature reaction for the impressionable Diego Fernando to witness. We’re not saying the reporter didn’t need to be straightened out — if what’s alleged is true — but no matter what the real story, it looks like some growing up needs to happen.

Diego Maradona wants you to know he’s lost some weight, again

image

Okay, more like a lot of weight. And per Diego’s own words, all those pounds were shed under his own power, not with the magic of Photoshop (or weight-loss surgery).

You have to admit, Diego looks pretty incredible right now, even if we don’t know just how much he sucked his stomach in for the picture. Just compare it to the shape he was in literally only a year ago:

Of course, now the question is: How long will it last? Maradona is notorious for fluctuating in size like Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor. He’s like a human accordion.

Case in point? This was him looking spiffy at the 2010 World Cup:

And then here he is in 2011, back to his lovable balloon size:

So, yeah. Keeping the weight off is half the battle.

We wish you all the best with your latest body transformation, Diego. Just remember, we love you no matter what your size.

New angle of “Goal of the Century” discovered

We can all thank the power of the Internet for a rare, new look at one of the most memorable goals ever scored. Though the video above was first posted onto YouTube in April, it hasn’t made the rounds in the blogosphere until now (and shame on all of us for that).

Diego Maradona’s second goal against England in the 1986 World Cup — no, not this one — was voted the “Goal of the Century” back in 2002 by FIFA.com voters. This never-before-seen (well, posted online) angle of the goal, originating from Argentinian television, was shot from behind the net of England’s Peter Shilton.

Finally, we get an idea of the nightmares that Shilton must have been battling all his life. It’s also shot in super slow motion, so you can really appreciate the embarrassment Maradona caused to, in order: Peter Beardsley, Peter Reid, Terry Butcher (twice) and Terry Fenwick.

Ah, the one and only Diego Armando Maradona.

The Argentine legend was spotted at the Dubai Tennis Championships earlier this week and met former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki. After a long, grueling match, the ex-champ chatted up with Maradona for some Q&A’s and “friendly” photo shots.

Always the sly dog, Maradona couldn’t take his hands off the Danish sensation. For the record,  Diego’s long-time partner, Veronica Ojeda, was nowhere in sight.
