David Luiz receives heartwarming letter from little girl after Brazil’s loss to Germany

Following Brazil’s humiliating 7-1 defeat to Germany at Belo Horizonte last Wednesday, it would have been easy to lambaste the players for their dreadful effort and performance.

However, one little girl showed maturity beyond her years by sending a letter of support to captain on the night David Luiz:

Translation, via ESPNFC:

“Hi David Luiz, My name is Analuz. I saw all of the Brazil games in the World Cup and I liked it a lot watching you play. I think that you don’t need to be sad because you played well and did the best you could. You were a great captain. Life is like this, sometimes people lose and sometimes people win but people only need to be happy.

David Luiz, you are my champion.

Analuz Penna Reale”

David Luiz had a response for the girl:

“Many thanks Princess Ana Luz, loved your letter! And I thank all Brazilians for all the support! I’ll never give up my dreams, and I will always strive to give back all that love I receive!

God bless you all!”

The Brazilian players are unlikely to get over their embarrassing defeat for a while, but forgiveness will help.

Colombia star James Rodriguez orchestrates hilarious prank on teammate Pablo Armero

When you’ve taken the World Cup by storm like James Rodriguez, you deserve to let your hair down once in a while.

One of the most sought-after youngsters in world soccer decided to take a leaf out of David Luiz’s book and lighten up the mood in the Colombian camp.

Rodriguez appears to be the mastermind behind this prank on Pablo Armero, where he, Juan Cuadrado and Luis Muriel scare the hell out of their teammate.

Disabled young fan impresses David Luiz, makes Neymar cry

Brazil have begun their training camp ahead of this summer’s World Cup, and yesterday they had a very exceptional visitor.

Leonardo Marques Tome, a 17-year-old who was born with arthrogryposis, stopped by their session to read the players a letter about his story, and show off his juggling skills.

Not only was David Luiz very clearly impressed with the boy’s skills, the letter read to the team even brought Neymar to tears.

It’s not as if Brazil needed any more motivation in this summer’s tournament, but this brave youngster surely has them pushing just a little bit harder.

Chelsea players look exactly like soccer players while shooting hoops

Despite what is looking increasingly like a trophy-less season for Chelsea, it looks like the Blues aren’t spending too much time sulking.

Chelsea TV caught footage of some of the players playing a pickup game of basketball during training. We’re hoping it was just a fun way to stay fit, because if this was meant to showcase any skills for a prospective career-switch, they’re barking up the wrong tree.

You can tell these gents spent the bulk of their time using their feet, not their hands. It’d be like asking a carpenter to use his feet to build a set of stairs. Sure, the job would get done (maybe), but it certainly wouldn’t look natural.

One lesson we can extract from this video, though? David Luiz is as gun-shy from distance with a basketball as he is with a soccer ball. Brick city! Oh, and don’t forget to watch out for Jon Obi Mikel playing some Dennis Rodman defense on Cesar Azpilicueta.

Back in December, Bayern Munich’s stars also tried their hand at basketball, with similar results. Check it out here.

Golazo! Nike strikes gold with “Winner Stays” commercial

Who among us hasn’t dreamed of actually being one of our sports idols? We’re not sure where the practice of saying an icon’s name when playing pick-up came about, but we’ve all done it.

Nike Football found a way to cash in on this schoolyard quirk, and the result is gold. Watch “Winner Stays” for yourself to see and review our favorite highlights from Nike’s ‘Risk Everything’ football campaign:

  • The kid calling out “Neymar” for pulling a totally non-Neymar move and shying away from a one-on-one
  • Double the “David Luiz”
  • A possible World Cup preview with “Pique” tackling “Neymar,” his Barcelona teammate!
  • "Zlatan" insisting "Zlatan" take a free-kick
  • Cameos from Kobe Bryant, Anderson Silva, and Jon “Bones” Jones
  • "Iniesto!"
  • And of course, Ronaldo having the support of the one fan who matters most:

Little boy interrupts Brazil friendly, Neymar handles introductions

At the end of Brazil’s 5-0 friendly win against South Africa in Johannesburg, a little boy ran onto the pitch looking to greet his idols, and sure enough, he got that chance! Despite security’s efforts to retrieve the “pitch invader,” Neymar ran over to the boy, picked him up, and introduced him to the entire team.

It’s precisely moments like this that give soccer its reputation as “The Beautiful Game.”

There is now video of the adorableness.
