Black cat invades Camp Nou pitch during Barcelona’s La Liga opener

imageThe Blaugrana will be hoping the furry pitch invader in their La Liga home opener isn’t a sign of things to come this season.

Just as their match against Elche kicked off, a rather adorable black cat ran rampant on the pitch for a good few minutes, sprinting the length of the pitch before it was eventually wrangled by a steward.

If Barcelona has some kind of disastrous or unlucky or ‘cat’-astrophic season, we all know who the Camp Nou faithful will blame.

Brazil legend Rivaldo retires from football

image

Rivaldo, one of the greatest midfielders of our generation and a living Brazilian legend, announced his retirement from football via Instagram Saturday:image

During his 24-year career, Rivaldo won the 2002 World Cup, the 2003 Champions League with AC Milan, and two La Liga titles with Barcelona, among many other accolades. He received the Ballon d’Or in 1999 and was voted into two World Cup all-star teams (1998 and 2002).

We invite you now to join us and take a moment to reminisce on Rivaldo’s brilliance. Perhaps his greatest goal came in 2001, on the final day of the La Liga season. Barcelona needed to beat Valencia in order to qualify for next year’s Champions League. Two minutes from time, with the match tied 2-2, Rivaldo stepped up:

And if that’s not enough for you, here are a lot more Rivaldo highlights:

Tchau, legend!

Barcelona build mausoleum for fans who want to remain with club forever

image

Do you live and die for Barcelona?

Well, now you can make certain that you’re Blaugrana from the cradle to the grave — literally. Barcelona have built a mausoleum for fans who will pay to have their remains stored at the Camp Now forever and always — or at least for 50 to 99 years.

Currently, there is only space for 500 urns at the Les Corts cemetery — which lies adjacent to the Camp Nou — but the plan is to build a whole mausoleum underneath the stadium, with room for around 30,000 urns, once the Camp Nou is modernized or built anew. Interested fans will then be able to purchase large, Barca-decorated ceramic slabs, behind which family members’ ashes can be stored.

The price is steep, however, and apparently the urns would not be able to remain there forever, which we thought was the whole point.

From The Guardian:

"Memorial Space FC Barcelona aims to be a link with the club forever, a tribute to those who wish to be bound forever to the club," said Santi Bach, the chief executive officer of Giem Sports, who are partners in the project.

Prices range from €3,000 (£2,480) to €6,000 to buy a space for 50 to 99 years.

AC Milan sends Barca to shocking 2-0 defeat

AC Milan shocked the soccer world with an impressive 2-0 home win against Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.

After a scoreless first half, Kevin Prince Boateng opened the scoring after the referee missed a Cristian Zapata handball deflection.

Later it was Sulley Muntari who capped it off for Milan with this wonderfully worked goal. Stephan El Shaarawy with a clever trap and lobbed pass over to Muntari, who slotted home past Victor Valdes.

Amazingly, Muntari and Boateng were once teammates at League One side Portsmouth. Today, they’re instrumental in beating almighty Barcelona!
