Summing up the Premier League in one tidy little flowchart

Wondering where it all went wrong (unless you’re a Man City fan) for your Premier League team? Was it “lots of own goals and red cards” that did your team in? Maybe it was spending “£27.5 on a giraffe in a wig” that was the final nail in the coffin?

(Full size)

The fine folks at Project Babb have put together a convenient little flowchart to help answer these questions and make sense of one of the craziest EPL seasons of recent memory.

Wenger could make Benteke move

Arsene Wenger yesterday moved to distance himself from rumors he is set to buy a striker in January. The Arsenal boss thinks they have enough firepower with Theo Walcott not far from a return.

However, if today’s newspapers are to be believed then Wenger is set for a swoop for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke. The forward looked set to leave in the summer before signing a new long-term contract. It could take a sizable sum to tempt Villa to part with their star striker.

Iniesta, Dempsey wanted by Premier League heavyweights

In terms of soccer transfer stories, they don’t get much bigger than what we present you today. The latest rumors link Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta to Manchester United, whose creative midfield problems have been only too documented in the past.

As well as that though, we bring you the news of a true soccer legend nearing his own return to the Premier League. Clint Dempsey has previously turned out for Fulham and Tottenham in England, and those two sides, as well as Aston Villa and Everton, have expressed an interest in bringing the Seattle Sounders stars back on loan. Read all about the above rumors and many more with a simple click.

Manchester United wants Benteke

After what was an unsuccessful summer transfer window Manchester United appear to have tried to get things moving in preparation for the window re-opening in January. David Moyes looks to have targeted Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke as the man he wants to bring in, and with four goals in as many games, the Belgian could make a big impact.

Usain Bolt to Prince Harry: Don’t Let Your Son Support Villa!

Photo via the Birmingham Mail

Just a few days after the birth of the next Monarch in line for the British throne, Premier League club Aston Villa wasted little time sending out a care package to the newborn. While the PR stunt won the club a bit of attention in the English press, recent comments made by Jamaican Olympian Usain Bolt are bringing the club an entirely different sort of attention…

In a recent newspaper interview with the Birmingham Mail, Bolt had less than positive comments about the club:

"I want to give all my best to the Prince and Duchess on their firstborn. I just hope he doesn’t follow in his daddy’s footsteps and become an Aston Villa fan. It isn’t fair to put a child through that - especially not a prince. When the prince is old enough, I’d love to take him to Old Trafford. It’s only fair he gets to support a winning team."

That’s definitely harsh, but is it really that far off? Of course, a real prince would just make sure that Villa won the Premier League every season, but it remains to be seen if Prince Georgie has a lot in common with a certain Joffrey Baratheon…

Aston Villa launches new “Royal Baby” merchandise line

That didn’t take long, did it?

It’s considered common knowledge by now that Prince William - the proud new father of a royal baby boy - is a fan of Birmingham-based soccer club Aston Villa. So maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise that the club is looking to cash in on the royal link by releasing a new line of “Royal Baby” merchandise in its stores.

That’s right, you can now purchase anything from baby socks and bibs to pacifiers, sippy cups and “baby on board” stickers adorned with the club’s logo. The highlight in the collection though is the customized baby jersey with “HRH” emblazoned on the back, standing for “His Royal Highness.”

The team was also quick to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge via Twitter, claiming the royal baby’s fanhood well before it can even utter his first words:

Whether or not the Royal Baby will grow up to root for his father’s club remains to be seen. In the meantime, we’re certain Villa is going to profit some either way. Let’s be real: what Villain fan wouldn’t want their baby to sport an “HRH” jersey?

Pellegrini hoping to take Zlat

Manchester City’s hopes of securing a world-class striker during the summer transfer window has failed thus far, so new manager Manuel Pellegrini has turned his attention to PSG forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The fiery Swede is reportedly unhappy with his club’s pursuit of Edinson Cavani and has refused to answer the calls of new coach Laurent Blanc. Interesting times ahead it seems. We’ve also got the latest on Christian Benteke, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez, so just click here.

Tottenham chasing Aston Villa’s Benteke

After announcing his desire to leave the Birmingham club, Christian Benteke’s availability has turned the heads of a few managers looking to boost their striking options. No one needs additions in the attacking department like Andre Villas-Boas. After struggling with just two recognized strikers all last season the Spurs boss will be desperate to bring in the Belgium forward who bagged 19 goals last season.

Elsewhere there is news on the future of Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo has been making the headlines again. Check out these rumors and more by clicking here.
