Darren Fletcher does Ice Bucket Challenge, as awareness goes global

image

We’ve already introduced you to the Ice Bucket Challenge, (which you’re probably aware has been making the rounds on the Internet), but in case you’ve forgotten, here’s a quick refresher:

The movement to combat the rare neurodegenerative disease ALS (or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) has gone viral since originating in Boston last month. Athletes and celebrities have joined the general public in pouring buckets of ice water over their heads and then “daring” more people to do the same.

The challenge has made its way over to Europe now, too, as a trio of AS Roma players took the plunge.

Additionally, Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher was recently tapped to do it. In turn, and to the delight of everyone here at FOX Soccer, he nominated none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Don’t let all the ladies down, CR7. We know you don’t need an excuse to remove your shirt anyway, so just do it.

Francesco Totti trolls new teammate Ashley Cole

image

Remember the Roma team picture from last week featuring an isolated Ashley Cole looking like an outcast?

The picture made the rounds last week on social media, inspiring a meme and even its own Twitter handle, @LurkingAshley.

Cole himself couldn’t help but laugh at himself:

Now, Roma captain Francesco Totti has provided the icing on the cake.

For the squad’s latest team photo (on the Rocky Steps, no less), Totti deliberately “pulled an Ashley” and stood off to the side. Check it out:

Going crazy! Pitch invaders run wild at end of Real Madrid-Roma match

image

Not one, not two, not three.

Not four, not five.

Not six.

We literally lost track how many pitch invaders interrupted the end of the Real Madrid vs. Roma match on Tuesday night at the International Champions Cup, but we do know this: One is already too many.

The preseason tournament has had at least one pitch invader in seemingly every game thus far, but things really got out of hand in Dallas:

Security staffers, don’t quit your day jobs.

Ashley Cole the odd man out in Roma team picture

image

Ashely Cole seems to be fitting in splendidly with new club AS Roma.

The long-time Premier League defender made the bold move out of England this summer to join the reigning Serie A runners-up, and based on this team picture from their United States tour, it looks like Cole’s having a bit of a tough time making new friends!

Take it away, Celine …

Miralem Pjanic scores screamer from inside own half!

image

Miralem Pjanic scores ridiculous goals like you or I might eat cereal for breakfast. Dude does it all. The. Time.

The Roma midfielder’s latest trick may be the most audacious of them all, scoring from well inside his own half during Saturday’s International Champions Cup tilt vs Manchester United. See it here:

Good Lord!

As most of us already knew, and as the Denver Broncos found out yesterday, Pjanic is money from this type of range:

#DempseyWatch Turns Into #BradleyWatch

By Kyle McCarthy

Former United States men’s international Taylor Twellman sparked hysteria on Twitter this afternoon with a brief, incredible dispatch about the future of Michael Bradley:

This move carries most of the hallmarks of Clint Dempsey’s stunning move to Seattle last summer with one catch: Bradley, 26, is in the prime of his career.

The thought of Bradley — perhaps the best player in a USA shirt at the moment — exchanging Serie A for MLS at this stage raises a whole host of questions. Most of them permeated through the Internet in the ensuing minutes as people tried to process why Bradley might spurn the chance to fight for his place at Roma or stay in Europe with another club.

Perhaps the most interesting dispatch came from Philadelphia Union defender Amobi Okugo:Β

Whether TFC and Bradley eventually complete the move remains uncertain at this point. One thing is clear about the present, though: #BradleyWatch has started in earnest.

Italian announcer likens Michael Bradley to Lex Luthor

image

Michael Bradley and Lex Luthor: separated at birth?

You can see the resemblance, can’t you? Italian soccer announcer Carlo Zampa clearly does, as he loudly referred to Bradley as “LEX LUTHOR!” several times after the USMNT star scored the game-winner for AS Roma against Udinese this weekend. Listen in, and keep scrolling down to see the goal itself:

Roma improved to 9-0-0 with the win, setting a new Serie A record for best start to a season, while it was Bradley’s first goal of the season in his first game back since suffering an ankle injury in early September. An exciting moment for both club and player, and most certainly for Carlo Zampa.
