The fine folks over at Eurosport did some digging and came up with some of the best old-school Panini sticker cards of stars at the World Cup. Without further ado, here are some of our favorite before-and-after looks:
Look at that! Even the dashing Cristiano Ronaldo went through an awkward phase. It looks like the sunshine of Madrid has treated the Portuguese quite nicely over the years. Not only did he pick up a tan, he also picked up another earring! The 2006 edition of Clint Dempsey would fit right in where the 2014 edition plies his footballing trade professionally: Seattle, a.k.a. the grunge capital of the world.
Look at little Lionel Messi. Eight years of tirelessly running around melted that baby fat from 2006 right off.
If Frank Lampard doesn’t encapsulate what the transition from a fresh-faced up-and-comer to grizzled veteran is, we don’t know who does.
Steven Gerrard must have been born with that “always worried” look. We suppose that’s what happens when you miss out on the Barclays Premier League title for 24 years and counting.
Arjen Robben certainly lost some hair, but he never lost that smile.
Andrea Pirlo has aged gracefully, now sporting a more elderly-looking beard. His hair remains feathered and lethal, though.
Ivorian star Didier Drogba looks almost identical eight years later, but still hasn’t found any happiness. Maybe he’ll crack a smile if The Elephants can finally get out of the group stage.
Clearly, Andres Iniesta found the fountain of youth and refuses to tell anyone about it.
