Abby Wambach breaks Mia Hamm’s all-time international scoring record

June 20th, 2013

History!

Abby Wambach is now the all-time leading goal scorer in not only women’s, but all of international soccer! The USA star scored four goals in the first half of Thursday’s friendly against South Korea to match, and then surpass, Mia Hamm’s old record of 158 goals. Wambach now sits at 160 goals for her stunning international career.

Even more impressive: it took Wambach 68 fewer games than Hamm to reach the record!

Hamm, a teammate of Wambach’s as her own career was nearing the end in 2004, was quick to congratulate:

Here’s an iconic image of the current and the old record holder:

She wasn’t the only one to tweet out some props. The President himself had a few words to say, er, tweet:

Indeed, the only ones not happy about this milestone might be jealous Mexico fans:

Congratulations, Abby!
