Fans of Chivas USA and MLS as a whole are tired of Chivas USA’s management. Through a Reddit thread, the MLS community is teaming up to put an end to the reign of Chivas USA owner Jorge Vergara.
Reddit user @talpostal says:
"Chivas USA is an MLS team that is notoriously mismanaged. While the rest of the league is made of teams whose owners significantly invest in them (with few exceptions), people think that Chivas USA’s ownership treats them like a B-Team of Chivas Guadalajara, a popular Mexican soccer team that is affiliated with Chivas USA.
"For example, Chivas USA sells/trades away all of their best players, makes no real effort to market the team, fires their coaches, etc.
"Other MLS fans want to protest Chivas USA’s ownership because they are an embarrassment to the rest of the league."
Through the use of crowdfunding service Crowdtilt the community is looking to raise money to send a message to Chivas USA management during the June 23rd match between Chivas and LA Galaxy. Management has reportedly banned tifos that are critical of management, so fans have taken to the sky.
They will use one of three methods to show their resentment towards Vergara: for $4,120 they could use a plane for skywriting, for $675 they have the option of a flown LED night sign, or for $605 they could have a banner stretch across the sky.
As of June 3rd, the campaign is at $680, guaranteeing that either the LED sign or a banner will be flown.
We’ll find out on June 23rd if Chivas USA supporters follow through with this bold and creative plan.
