Key Player: Michel Vorm
In: Manager Michael Laudrup, Chico, Jonathan de Guzman, Michu
Out: Manager Brendan Rodgers, Joe Allen
Okay, admit it: Swansea City was the surprise of the last BPL season. Now recognize what confronts new boss Michael Laudrup. Not only has the architect of the Swansea miracle decamped to Liverpool, it seems only a matter of time that some of the Swansea talent will follow. Laudrup has the core of the Welsh side still together, but will it play the same, sweet-passing football under the Dane that it did under Rodgers? Even then, when Swansea was at its best last season the possession was never rewarded with the goals that should have been created.
Vorm is the best thing going for Swansea right now, perhaps one of the top three keepers in the Premier League and still just coming into his prime. Vorm made the crucial, often spectacular, saves last season that enabled Swans to get results. He will have to be even better this time because the glow of last year may wear off quickly. It’s hard to see much that will be different about the attack — still based on Danny Graham’s striking ability — but it’s too easy to wonder how long it will be before the absence of Rodgers and his guiding philosophy will become a talking point of the new campaign.
